Four members of country singer Pat Green’s family—his younger brother, John, John’s wife, Julia, and their two children—were swept away in the July 2025 flooding near Kerrville, Texas. They were initially reported missing; a later Texas Rangers victim list identified all four among those killed.
What happened to Pat Green’s family?
During the July 4, 2025, flooding in Kerr County, John and Julia Burgess and their children, James and John Burgess V, were swept away. News reports published on July 8 said the four were missing as the family waited for news. The later victim list confirmed their deaths.
The Texas Tribune reported that the list, attributed to the Texas Rangers, named John Burgess, 39; Julia Burgess, 39; James Burgess, 1; and John Burgess V, 5, all from Liberty. Those names and details appear in The Texas Tribune’s August 8 report, corrected August 11.
What did Pat Green say?
CBS Texas reported that Green’s wife, Kori Green, shared his statement on Instagram. Green wrote, “We are grieving alongside countless Texans whose lives have been upended by this tragedy.” He also asked for “privacy and space” as the family mourned and began to process what came next. The quotations are reproduced by CBS Texas; the outlet attributed the post to Kori Green.

In an earlier post reported by KSAT, Kori Green said the family was “heartbroken and anxiously waiting for all of them to be found” and thanked people for their prayers. That report reflects the family’s public message while the four were still being reported missing, not a confirmation of their deaths. KSAT’s July 8 report also identified the family relationships.

The family’s deaths were part of the July 4 floods that devastated Kerr County. The Texas Tribune reported that heavy rain caused the Guadalupe River to rise 36 feet. Its August 8 account, based on the Texas Rangers victim list, reported 119 deaths in Kerr County; at that time, state officials said two people remained missing. Those are figures from that dated report, not current totals.
