Paralympic swimmer Ali Truwit finished the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon in 4:14:34, running on a prosthetic blade. The November 2 race marked her return to marathon running after she lost her left leg in a 2023 shark attack.

New York Road Runners (NYRR), the race organizer, recorded Truwit’s official time as 4:14:34 in its report on the November 2, 2025 event. NYRR said more than 55,000 athletes from nearly 150 countries traversed the five boroughs and crossed the finish line; its report headline described the event as having more than 59,000 finishers.
Running the race on a prosthetic blade
Before the marathon, PEOPLE reported that Truwit planned to run on a prosthetic blade. NYRR’s pre-race interview transcript also described her as running on a blade. The available reporting does not identify the blade’s manufacturer, model, cost, or technical specifications, so it does not support claims about a particular product or how it was fitted.
From a 2023 shark attack to the Paris Paralympics
Team USA reported that Truwit lost her left leg after a shark attack while on a graduation trip in Turks and Caicos in 2023. A lifelong swimmer, she returned to elite competition and won two silver medals at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games: in the S10 400-meter freestyle and 100-meter backstroke. Team USA also reported that she set two American records at those Games.

In September 2025, Team USA said Truwit had taken a year away from swimming to prepare for the marathon. Her New York race was a return to marathon running following the attack, alongside the athletic path that had taken her to the Paralympic podium.
Team Inspire and Stronger Than You Think
NYRR reported that Truwit ran as part of Team Inspire in support of her foundation, Stronger Than You Think. Team USA described the nonprofit’s work as including prosthetics for recipients and water-safety grants to programs. NYRR’s interview transcript described its mission as helping young girls access prosthetics. Those accounts describe work reported in 2025; they are not current audited impact figures.

Team USA quoted Truwit describing success in terms of its effect on others: “Success for me has always been the way I can impact the people around me, the way I can use what I have to do good.”

In its November 1, 2025 pre-race feature, PEOPLE reported that Truwit’s parents and her best friend Sophie Pilkinton planned to run with her. That preview described her plans before race day; NYRR’s later report provides the official finish time.
