Palisades Charter High School—known as Pali High—was damaged by the January 2025 Palisades Fire, but it was not wholly destroyed. The Associated Press reported that most buildings remained standing and that officials estimated about 40% of the campus had been damaged. The school has appeared in productions including the 1976 film Carrie, and Los Angeles Unified later announced that students and staff returned to its main campus.
What happened to Pali High in the Palisades Fire?
The Palisades Fire began on January 7, 2025, and flames burned parts of Palisades Charter High School in Pacific Palisades. In January coverage, the Associated Press reported that most campus buildings were still standing. Officials estimated that about 40% of the campus was damaged—a serious impact, but not evidence that the school burned down.
The AP reported an enrollment of about 3,000 students at the time. That is an immediate-aftermath figure, not a current enrollment count.
Which films and shows have featured the school?
The Associated Press identifies Pali High as a filming location for the 1976 horror film Carrie, the 2003 remake of Freaky Friday, and the television series Teen Wolf. These are examples of productions filmed at the school; they do not mean that every scene in each title was shot there.

CNA’s January 2025 reporting gives a broader list: Crazy/Beautiful, Havoc, American Vandal, and Olivia Rodrigo’s “good 4 u” music video, in addition to school-related screen history. This is a list reported by CNA, not a complete official filmography. The school’s own filming page confirms that it hosts productions but does not name individual titles.
Is the campus open again?
Los Angeles Unified School District later announced that students and staff returned to Pali High’s main campus, describing the return as a milestone in wildfire recovery. The announcement estimated a $604 million district investment across three affected schools: Pali High, Palisades Charter Elementary, and Marquez Charter Elementary. That is a combined figure, not an amount allocated to Pali High alone.
