The September 2025 PlayStation Plus Monthly Games lineup was Psychonauts 2, Stardew Valley and Viewfinder, scheduled to become available on September 2, 2025. The offer has expired, so these games should not be treated as currently claimable through that monthly lineup. T3’s “as good as Astro Bot” comparison was author Rik Henderson’s opinion of Psychonauts 2, not an official rating or a claim that the games play alike.
What were the PS Plus monthly games for September 2025?
Sony Interactive Entertainment announced the three-game lineup on August 27, 2025. Sony scheduled the games for September 2; its announcement also gave members until September 1 to add August’s Lies of P, Day Z and My Hero One’s Justice 2 to their libraries.

| Game | What it is | Platforms identified in the sources |
|---|---|---|
| Psychonauts 2 | Platform-adventure starring Razputin “Raz” Aquato, a trained acrobat and young psychic who joins the Psychonauts. The story takes him through the minds of friends and foes, using customizable psychic powers. | Sony identifies it as a PS4 game. T3 also says it is playable on PS5 and PS5 Pro. |
| Stardew Valley | A farm-restoration story about inheriting a plot of land and rebuilding a life in the valley. | Not stated in Sony’s lineup summary. |
| Viewfinder | First-person puzzle adventure in which an instant camera helps reshape environments and solve puzzles. | PS4 and PS5, according to Sony. |
Is Psychonauts 2 like Astro Bot?
They share the broad category of 3D platform-adventure, but the comparison in T3’s headline is a judgment about quality, not a statement that they have the same mechanics, style or audience. T3 author Rik Henderson said he held Psychonauts 2 in the same regard as Astro Bot and Super Mario Odyssey, praising its inventive, immersive qualities. Sony describes its distinctive premise as a journey through characters’ minds, with psychic abilities at the center.
That makes Henderson’s comparison useful as a recommendation signal if you enjoy ambitious platformers, but it remains his editorial opinion. Sony’s announcement does not compare the games, and the sources cited here provide no objective score or audience-vote evidence for the claim.

Which PS Plus tier included the monthly games?
Sony’s current US PlayStation Plus page lists Monthly Games as a benefit of Essential, Extra and Premium. It lists Game Catalog access for Extra and Premium, not Essential. Those are separate benefits: a monthly game is not the same thing as a title available through the catalog.
The tier information is specific to the US page and can change; consult the PlayStation Plus page for your region for current benefits and terms. The September 2025 claim window is over, and the sources do not establish that these games can still be claimed through a later offer.

What “free” meant in the original headline
“Free” referred to games offered as a PlayStation Plus membership benefit during a limited claim period, not unconditional permanent ownership. Sony’s announcement established the September 2, 2025 start date, but the offer is historical. Do not rely on the old monthly lineup as proof of current access or availability.
