September 2013: They first met
Munn and Mulaney met at the wedding of comedian Seth Meyers and Alexi Ashe, according to Mulaney’s account in a September 2021 interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Their first meeting came years before they began dating.

Spring 2021: They began dating
In that same interview, Mulaney said he went to Los Angeles in the spring and started dating Munn after treatment and sober living. “Then, in the spring, I went to Los Angeles. And met and started to date a wonderful woman named Olivia,” he said.
May 10, 2021: Mulaney and Anna Marie Tendler announce their separation
On May 10, Tendler and Mulaney announced that they were separating. Tendler said she was “heartbroken that John has decided to end our marriage” and wished him support and success as he continued his recovery. This public date establishes when the separation was announced; it does not, by itself, settle private details about the chronology of either relationship.

September 2021: They announce they are expecting a child
During his September interview, Mulaney said that he and Munn were having a baby. He also described their relationship as “really beautiful” and “very incredible.”
November 2021: Their son Malcolm is born
The couple welcomed Malcolm in November 2021. ABC News reported his birth date as November 24.
March 2024: Munn shares her breast cancer diagnosis
Munn publicly disclosed that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had undergone a double mastectomy and additional surgeries. She thanked Mulaney for supporting her before and after surgery, including placing photographs of Malcolm where she could see them when she woke. Her account made his support during her treatment part of the couple’s public story.

June 2024: They marry
Mulaney confirmed in August 2024 that he and Munn had married in June. Speaking about joining her family, he said, “Marrying into a large Vietnamese family is one of the most fun things I’ve ever done.”

September 2024: Their daughter Méi is born
The couple’s daughter, Méi June, was born via gestational surrogate on September 14, 2024; they announced her arrival on September 22. Munn said Méi is pronounced “may” and that the name means “plum” in Chinese.
