Princess nails are short, softly shaped nails finished in sheer blush or nude-pink polish with a clean gloss. Squoval is the signature shape, but oval, almond, or softly squared nails can suit the look too. First described in 2025 trend coverage, it is a style option built around a natural-looking finish—not a newly verified 2026 surge.
What are princess nails?
They are a polished, understated manicure: short nails, a gentle shape, translucent pink or nude color, and a glossy finish. Vogue’s June 17, 2025 feature describes the look through royal manicure references and quotes celebrity manicurist Michelle Class: “Leaning into a soft-glam aesthetic, princess nails are made up of sheer blush pinks, shimmers, and subtle chrome.” Class also calls them “pretty and always a little bit delicate—like a modern fairy tale with a manicure.” These are stylistic descriptions, rather than a strict technical definition.
Squoval—a soft square with rounded corners—is a useful shorthand for the shape. The look is not limited to it: Vogue also describes oval, almond, and softly tapered square possibilities. ELLE Singapore likewise describes short square-oval nails in sheer nude and blush-pink tones.
How to ask for princess nails at the salon
Try: “I’d like short, softly squared or squoval nails with a sheer blush-pink or nude-pink polish and a glossy finish.” If you prefer a different outline, ask for short oval or almond nails instead. Mention that you want a natural-looking, translucent color, not an opaque pastel; that detail helps convey the restrained finish.
