In the 2024 ITV documentary Prince William: We Can End Homelessness, Prince William recalled that his mother, Princess Diana, took him and Prince Harry to The Passage, a London homelessness charity, when he was about 10 or 11. He remembered feeling anxious, then watching Diana put people at ease as they talked and played chess.
What William remembered about the visit
William described the visit as an unfamiliar experience. “My mother took me to The Passage. She took Harry and I both there,” he said in remarks from the documentary reported by ITV News on October 27, 2024.
He estimated he was around 10 or 11. “I’d never been to anything like that before, and I was a bit anxious as to what to expect.” He recalled Diana speaking with people and helping them feel at ease, and remembered conversations and chess at the charity. The experience, he said, showed him that other people could lead lives very different from the one he knew.
How the memory connects to the documentary
Prince William: We Can End Homelessness is a two-part ITV documentary about the first year of Homewards. ITV’s programme description lists original broadcasts on October 30 and 31, 2024, and says the series follows work across six UK locations.

The Passage says William’s first visits with Diana took place in 1993. The charity describes Homewards as a five-year programme and links William’s personal interactions with people experiencing homelessness to the programme’s origins. Its chief executive, Mick Clarke, said William had seen that “homelessness can be prevented and ended” through those visits.
The documentary presents the memory as part of the background to William’s engagement with homelessness work. The programme’s scope and aims are not, by themselves, evidence that homelessness has been ended or reduced.

Was this William’s first public mention of Harry in years?
Some secondary coverage framed the recollection as William’s first mention of his brother in years. That wording is not established by a comprehensive record of his public remarks. In a January 2017 TIME report, William spoke to grieving children about his own mother and brother, so “first” depends on the timeframe and what counts as a mention.
In the documentary, Harry comes up because he shared the childhood visit with William. The recollection does not offer new information about the brothers’ present relationship.
