Harry thanked the organizers and award recipients, including for “inspiring so many others and at the same time protecting my mother’s legacy.” The quoted words were part of his remarks to them, as reported by the Associated Press.
What the Diana Legacy Award recognizes
The award recognizes young people working to improve their communities. The Diana Award says its purpose reflects Diana’s belief that young people can make positive change. At the ceremony, William called the 25th anniversary “particularly special” because the charity was established to reflect that belief.

William also said recipients had overcome adversity and prejudice, and praised their “courage, compassion and commitment.” ITV reported his statement that 50,000 young people had received a Diana Award over the preceding 25 years. That figure is William’s account at the event, not evidence about the specific impact of the Legacy Award.
What the separate appearances do—and do not—show
The available event reporting documents that the brothers participated separately: William in person, then Harry remotely. It does not establish why their appearances were arranged that way. The ceremony’s format alone should not be treated as proof of a private motive or a broader claim about their relationship.

The event took place decades after Diana’s death in 1997. The Associated Press reported that William and Harry were 15 and 12, respectively, when she died in a car crash in Paris.

No. In August 2026, Geo News reported that a Diana Award spokesperson said the organization was considering how to mark the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death in 2027, but that no event or attendance plans had been confirmed. The spokesperson said: “No plans have been agreed, no event has been confirmed, and no decisions have been made regarding attendance or participation.” That statement does not confirm that either prince will appear.
