Yes: contemporaneous reports said searches containing “Pokémon” on Pornhub rose 136% compared with the site’s daily average before Pokémon GO launched in 2016. The figure describes a change in searches—not a count of people, viewing activity, or adult-content consumption—and the timing does not establish that the game caused the increase.
What the 136% figure measured
Pornhub Insights reportedly published the finding on July 11, 2016. The Indian Express, reporting it on July 14, described searches for “pokémon” as 136% above the daily average before Pokémon GO’s launch. Android Authority covered the same claim on July 12, and International Business Times UK followed on July 13.
That wording matters: the comparison was about searches containing a term, against a pre-launch daily average. The reports do not give a raw search count or denominator, so the percentage cannot be converted into a number of searches or users. Nor does it show how many people watched or consumed any particular kind of content.
When the reported increase happened
Pokémon GO launched in the United States on July 6, 2016. The reported increase was described in relation to the period after that launch, while Pornhub’s Insights item was dated July 11. The reporting establishes a close sequence in time, not a controlled test of the game’s effect.

The Indian Express reported several relative comparisons attributed to Pornhub Insights. These are relative patterns, not shares of all searches or absolute counts.

The country list was described as concentrated largely in Central and South America. These comparisons should not be read as population-wide measures: the reports concern patterns on Pornhub, not a representative survey of Pokémon GO players or internet users.

What the reports leave uncertain
The Indian Express said Pornhub relied on Google Analytics; other contemporaneous coverage attributed the figures to Pornhub and Google data. The accessible reports do not provide a detailed methodology, the underlying time series, a search-count denominator, or a control group. Without those details, readers cannot independently assess how the percentage was calculated or separate the launch’s effect from other possible influences.
The evidence therefore supports a narrower conclusion: Pornhub reported a sharp rise in Pokémon-related searches around the time Pokémon GO launched. It does not prove that the game caused the rise, and it does not show a corresponding increase in people or overall adult-content consumption.
