The past event was an advance screening of SPIT followed by a conversation with Wenham and announced guests Sam and Teagan Rybka, the Rybka Twins.
What was planned at HOYTS Carousel?
The event announcement described an advance screening of SPIT with a live Q&A, rather than a standard cinema session. It was scheduled for Tuesday, 4 March 2025, at 6:45 pm at HOYTS Carousel, 1382 Albany Hwy, Cannington, WA 6107. The announcement said tickets could be booked through the HOYTS website or app at the time; that was historical booking information, not a current offer. The Curb’s 19 February 2025 report reproducing the HOYTS announcement gives the event details.

Who was announced for the Q&A?
David Wenham was listed alongside Sam and Teagan Rybka, known as the Rybka Twins, who also feature in the film. HOYTS Director of Sales, Marketing and Content Stephanie Mills said: “David Wenham is one of Australia’s most notable talents and his participation at the live Q&A sessions for Spit is sure to offer fans some incredible insight,” Stephanie said.
What is SPIT about?
The 2025 HOYTS announcement described SPIT as a sequel to the 2003 crime-comedy Gettin’ Square. David Wenham returns as Johnny “Spit” Spitteri, a small-time ex-criminal who comes back to Australia after years overseas, is detained, and befriends people while teaching them his version of mateship. A separate tour announcement named Jonathan Teplitzky as director and said the film was shot on and around the Gold Coast. The Curb’s 16 January 2025 tour announcement also listed the Carousel Q&A.

The film was scheduled to open at HOYTS nationally from 6 March 2025, with some advance screenings beforehand, according to the February announcement. HOYTS New Zealand’s listing gives a runtime of 105 minutes and a 6 March 2025 release date; those are details from its New Zealand page, not evidence of Australian sessions. See the HOYTS New Zealand listing for SPIT.

The Q&A date has passed. The official HOYTS Carousel page, checked on 8 October 2026, showed current session listings but did not list SPIT among the titles visible then. Cinema listings change, so that dated check does not establish the film’s permanent availability or where it can be watched elsewhere.
