The clearest suggestion comes from Downey himself: in a 2019 interview, he said he regularly wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso off-screen.
What the 2016 collection video actually shows
In GQ’s May 10, 2016 video, Downey walks through a selection of watches and tells stories about them. The video is an entertaining snapshot from that year—not a current inventory—and its playful presentation makes certainty difficult. GQ’s description cautions that some backstories may not be real; in the transcript, Downey retracts the Ben Stiller anecdote and a later correction appears. Watch GQ’s walkthrough.
Downey calls one piece “a Jaeger” and says he wore it in Iron Man 2. GQ’s transcript does not give a full model name. Time+Tide identified it as a Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT, while Hodinkee also used that identification in its recap. Those are publication identifications, not a reference number or independent authentication. Hodinkee’s recap and Time+Tide’s contemporary opinion piece offer additional context, including doubts about some identifications.
In the same GQ video, Downey recognizes an Omega, discusses Rolex watches, and shows a Patek Philippe. The humor and uncertainty are part of the segment; they are not enough to establish that every watch is genuine, correctly identified, or personally owned. Hodinkee’s recap identifies several pieces, including a green Rolex Submariner, a Speedmaster, a Nautilus, a Bell & Ross associated with Ben Stiller, and a Baume & Mercier associated with Downey’s grandfather. Treat those detailed labels as Hodinkee’s identifications rather than verified provenance.

What Downey said he wore in 2019
A 2019 Foundation Haute Horlogerie interview provides clearer first-person statements. Downey said he was wearing a De Bethune DB28 Tourbillon and praised its titanium lightness and manual winding. He also said he regularly wears a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso off-screen. Read the FHH interview.
In that interview, Downey also recalled a Patek Philippe Nautilus Moonphase given to him by his wife, named a green Rolex Submariner as the watch he loves most, and said an Urwerk had been auctioned for a good cause. These statements reflect what he said in 2019; they do not establish what he owns or wears today.

Which watch is the best suggestion?
For regular off-screen wear: Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso
The Reverso is the strongest recommendation because Downey specifically said he wears one regularly away from the screen. That makes it a better grounded suggestion for someone looking for a watch associated with his personal taste than a model identified only from the 2016 video. The interview does not specify his Reverso’s exact reference, so it cannot support a claim that he wears a particular version.
For the film connection: the Jaeger in Iron Man 2
If the appeal is the movie association, Downey’s GQ account links a Jaeger to Iron Man 2. The AMVOX3 Tourbillon GMT name comes from Time+Tide’s identification, not from the GQ transcript. It is a more tentative choice than the Reverso recommendation because the available account does not give a full reference or independently confirm the identification.

For the boldest collector’s piece: De Bethune DB28 Tourbillon
The DB28 is the clearest specific model Downey named in his 2019 interview, where he said it was on his wrist and highlighted its titanium construction and manual winding. That makes it a strong pick for readers interested in the watch he described wearing in that interview, but not evidence of his current daily watch.
