After Ozzy Osbourne died on July 22, 2025, Pat Boone remembered him not first as a rock star but as a “good friend” and former next-door neighbor. Boone said he would always recall Osbourne’s “warm friendliness” from the years their families lived beside one another in Beverly Hills.
What Pat Boone said about Ozzy Osbourne
In a tribute posted after Osbourne’s death, Boone wrote, as quoted by Rolling Stone Australia on July 24, 2025: “I am stunned. I can’t believe that my former next-door neighbor and good friend has passed suddenly.”
Boone contrasted Osbourne’s public image with the neighbor he knew: “Others may celebrate his incredible rocking style and hard rock music — but I’ll always remember his warm friendliness as my next-door neighbor. God bless you, Ozzy.”
Were Pat Boone and Ozzy Osbourne friends?
Yes. Boone described their connection as a friendly, everyday relationship between neighbors, not a meeting of performers comparing careers. He said: “When he and Sharon and the kids lived next-door to me for a couple of years, we weren’t rock stars comparing careers – we were just friends and neighbors getting along just fine.” Their families lived next door to each other in Beverly Hills for several years.

Rolling Stone also recounts memories Boone shared in an earlier Television Academy interview. How Pat Boone’s “Crazy Train” connected their musical worlds
Boone was known as a pop singer; Osbourne was the heavy-metal singer and Black Sabbath frontman whose solo run began with Blizzard of Ozz (1980), as described by The Guardian. Their most visible musical crossover came when Boone recorded a jazzy, big-band cover of Osbourne’s “Crazy Train.” Rolling Stone reports that Boone’s version became the theme song for the reality series The Osbournes.

The cover also fit a broader detour into metal for Boone, who released In a Metal Mood: No More Mr. Nice Guy in 1997. The connection was striking because of the contrast in their musical identities, but Boone’s tribute emphasized their neighborly friendship rather than the novelty of that contrast.
