Luke Nichols did not announce that Outdoor Boys was permanently over. In his May 17, 2025, video, he said, “This is going to be my last video for a while.” He later released three unfinished videos in November, while making clear that the limited release was not a return to regular posting. As of the latest upload evidence available, those November videos remain the latest listed; Nichols has not definitively said what the channel’s long-term future will be.
Why did Outdoor Boys quit?
Nichols’s May 2025 announcement described a step back from regular uploads, not a definitive retirement. In the video Goodbye, he said the attention the channel brought was becoming difficult for his family and spoke about the time and effort required to make the videos. “But even good things can be taken too far and I think I’m starting to reach that point,” he said, according to Deseret News.
He also said he wanted to help his oldest son Tom with his channel, Outdoor Tom, and spend time focusing on other people, as reported by Deseret News. Those are Nichols’s stated reasons; the reporting does not establish additional private motives.
What did Nichols say in the goodbye video?
The May 17, 2025, video was titled Goodbye. Nichols called it his last video “for a while,” rather than saying he would never make another one. At the time, Deseret News and KSL.com reported that Outdoor Boys had 15.3 million YouTube subscribers. Nichols also said he had made 1,110 videos over 11 years of online content, including videos for his earlier Catfish and Carp channel. Those figures describe the period around the May 2025 announcement, not current channel statistics. See the reports from Deseret News and KSL.com.

Is Outdoor Boys back on YouTube?
Not in the sense of resuming regular uploads. On November 5, 2025, Nichols announced that he would release three unfinished Outdoor Boys videos on the next three Saturdays. He explicitly said the limited release did not mean he was back to posting videos again: “Does this mean I’m back and posting videos again? Nope. Just doing exactly what I told you I was going to do,” Deseret News reported.
The videos were listed as uploads on November 8, 15 and 22, 2025. Nichols said he did not know whether he would post more after those releases, so they do not establish either a renewed schedule or a permanent ending. KSL.com also described the return as limited.

The public statements support a pause in regular posting and a finite release of unfinished videos. Nichols used the phrase “for a while,” then said he was not returning to regular uploads and was unsure whether he would post more. The reporting cited here does not establish a permanent retirement or a definitive long-term plan for Outdoor Boys.
