What happened at the 2025 Oscars?
The 97th Academy Awards took place on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood. Conan O’Brien hosted. The Academy had announced that the ceremony would air live on ABC and stream on Hulu, with its official red-carpet show scheduled before the broadcast. Those were event-night arrangements, not a guide to where the ceremony can be watched now. The Academy’s February 5 announcement also said the show was planned for more than 200 territories worldwide.

Who hosted and presented?
O’Brien served as host. The Academy’s February presenter announcements named a mix of returning Oscar winners and other figures from film, television and comedy. The following are examples from those announcements, not a complete list of everyone who appeared during the ceremony:
- Returning previous-year acting winners: Robert Downey Jr., Cillian Murphy, Da’Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone.
- Other announced presenters: Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Elle Fanning, Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Amy Poehler, June Squibb, Bowen Yang, Joe Alwyn, Sterling K. Brown, Willem Dafoe, Ana de Armas, Lily-Rose Depp, Selena Gomez, Goldie Hawn, Connie Nielsen, Ben Stiller and Oprah Winfrey.
The Academy published the initial names on February 5 and additional names on February 19.

The Associated Press characterized the carpet’s overall direction as old Hollywood glamour, presenting that as a fashion reading rather than a description that applies equally to every outfit. Brooke Bobb, Harper’s Bazaar fashion news director, told AP: “The Oscars red carpet style really leaned into old Hollywood glamour, which is a trend that’s been building throughout the last year on the red carpet and on the runways.”
Among the headline examples were Ariana Grande’s Glinda-inspired look and Cynthia Erivo’s green Elphaba-inspired look, connecting the evening’s fashion conversation to Wicked. The available reporting supports those broad references, but not a full designer-by-designer or garment-by-garment account. AP also noted that the ceremony came less than two months after the devastating Los Angeles fires, placing the event in the context of a difficult period for the city.
