At Lollapalooza Brasil on March 24, 2024, Brazilian rapper Oruam wore a shirt showing his father’s face with the word “liberdade” (“freedom”) beneath it. He later described the gesture as “Apenas um grito de um filho com saudades do pai” — “Just a son’s cry, missing his father,” as UOL reported.
What Oruam wore and where he performed
Oruam appeared at the festival on Sunday, March 24, wearing a shirt bearing an image of his father, Márcio dos Santos Nepomuceno, known as Marcinho VP, and the word “liberdade.” UOL placed the performance on the Perry’s by Johnnie Walker stage. Billboard Brasil reported that Oruam performed with TZ da Coronel and described the appearance as his festival debut.

The shirt made Oruam’s appeal visible during the performance; it was a personal gesture, not an announcement about a court ruling or a change in his father’s custody.
How Oruam explained the gesture
In a post reported by UOL Splash on March 24, Oruam wrote: “Apenas um grito de um filho com saudades do pai.” In English: “Just a son’s cry, missing his father.” The English wording is a translation of Oruam’s Portuguese statement.

Other reports describe Oruam speaking about growing up apart from his father and calling for his release or better treatment. Claims about how often he was able to visit, prison conditions, and whether his father had “paid his sentence” are Oruam’s statements; the reports do not independently establish those details or resolve their legal merits.
Who is Marcinho VP?
Reports identify Marcinho VP as Oruam’s father and describe him as imprisoned and associated with Comando Vermelho. Those descriptions provide context for the public appeal; they are not a new legal finding. Accounts differ on dates in his custody history, so no definitive arrest date is stated here.
