Oasis’s 4 July 2025 reunion opener in Cardiff made the long-imagined sight of Liam and Noel Gallagher together onstage real again. In front of more than 60,000 people, the band delivered a roughly two-hour, forceful run through a songbook weighted toward its early hits. The night’s emotional charge was unmistakable in the occasion; its musical choices were less surprising.
The reunion was the event—and the performance had to meet it
Oasis had not performed together since the brothers’ 2009 split. Their return at Principality Stadium was therefore more than a tour opening: the central image fans had waited for was Liam and Noel sharing a stage again. As the opening song “Hello” began, Liam greeted the crowd with the simple line, “it’s good to be back,” as reported by the Associated Press.

That reunion carries its own emotional force, but nostalgia alone would not make a concert work. The night’s strongest case was that the songs still had physical presence: AP characterized the set as a “punchy, powerful trip” through the band’s catalogue. That is a useful description of the show’s impact, not evidence that every choice felt newly revealed. Oasis returned with the familiar confidence and scale their songs invite, and the performance made those songs feel built for a crowd rather than preserved behind glass.
A set built around the songs that made Oasis
The set leaned heavily on Definitely Maybe and (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, with later material and fan-favourite B-sides in the mix, according to AP. That emphasis made sense for a first night back: the early catalogue is the clearest common ground between the band and the audience, and its big refrains are made for mass participation. The trade-off is that a catalogue-led show can feel more like confirmation than discovery. The set gave fans what they came to hear, while leaving less room for the kind of risk or rearrangement that might have unsettled expectations.

For listeners revisiting the debut’s songs, Definitely Maybe is the album at the heart of much of the night’s early-era material. Radio X’s first-night review and setlist gives the song-by-song account for readers who want the precise sequence rather than the broader shape.
Scale, crowd, and the closing note
AP put attendance at more than 60,000, a scale that turns even a familiar chorus into a communal event. The stadium setting suited a band whose songs have long depended on direct, unembarrassed hooks. ITV reported that Oasis thanked the crowd for “putting up with us over the years” as they closed the first night. The line acknowledged both the long absence and the history surrounding the brothers without pretending that the split had never happened.

Ticket prices were part of the story, not the verdict
The ticket-price furor followed the reunion into Cardiff, and Variety reported Liam joking about it during the show. It is relevant context for a concert built around a rare, highly anticipated return, but it does not settle whether the performance delivered. The available reporting does not establish an exact price paid by Cardiff attendees, so the value question is better framed around the show itself: a long-awaited reunion, a large-scale performance, and a set weighted toward the hits rather than a surprise-heavy reimagining.

Oasis’s first show together in 16 years succeeded most clearly as a live reunion: Liam and Noel were back on the same stage, and the songs arrived with the punch and scale that made them endure. The hit-led selection was a safe choice, but an understandable one for an opening night carrying this much expectation. It was less a reinvention of Oasis than a forceful reminder of why the reunion mattered.
