Cyrus has called it a portrait of her as an artist—“This album is me.” The record’s Americana, indie folk and country influences give those personal themes their musical setting.
What is Noah Cyrus’s new album?
I Want My Loved Ones to Go With Me is the album meant by “new” in coverage of Cyrus’s record. Released in 2025, it contains 11 songs inspired by people she loves or has loved, according to the Los Angeles Philharmonic. LA Phil describes its sound as a blend of Americana, indie folk and country. Those labels offer a useful guide to its musical territory, while the album’s stated inspirations point to its personal focus.

In LA Phil’s account, Cyrus said, “This album is me.” She also described learning to trust her own judgment: “For a long time, I couldn’t really trust in my own choices. I had to learn how to make decisions for myself and make that transition into adulthood.” Her remarks frame the record not only as a collection of songs about other people, but as an expression of her developing identity as an artist.
How does the album address relationships?
In a KOSU interview, Cyrus said the album touches on many relationships. Her discussion of “Long Ride Home” is a particularly direct example: she described it as coming from a past relationship in which she felt she had lost herself, neglected herself and her family, and become mentally unhealthy.

That is Cyrus’s retrospective account of her own experience. It should not be treated as independent evidence about the other person in that relationship. The song’s significance, as she explained it, is what it represents about her sense of self and the costs she felt the relationship had for her attention to herself and her family.
Where does family history enter the songs?
The album also reaches beyond present-day relationships into Cyrus’s family lineage. LA Phil notes that the voice of her grandfather, Ron Cyrus, appears near the end of “Apple Tree,” reciting a hymn written by her great-grandfather, Eldon Lindsey Cyrus. The detail brings earlier generations into the recording itself: family history is not only a theme described around the album, but part of the sound of one song.

Coverage by the Los Angeles Times also connects the record with family lineage. These reported details support a reading of the album as personal and intergenerational, without requiring assumptions about private family matters beyond what Cyrus and the coverage have made public.
How does the album relate to Cyrus’s earlier work?
Cyrus’s 2022 debut, The Hardest Part, belongs to a different album cycle. Its release feature from Sony Music Canada emphasized loss, heartbreak and recovery; Cyrus described that album’s process as “really healing for me.” That comment refers to making the 2022 debut, not to I Want My Loved Ones to Go With Me.

The distinction matters: the 2025 album is presented through family lineage, close relationships and a broader Americana, indie-folk and country palette. The two records can be understood as different moments in Cyrus’s work, rather than as one continuous statement with interchangeable themes.

A November 2025 episode description for The Zach Sang Show lists family and generational stories, songwriting with siblings, the album, therapy and fear of abandonment among its conversation topics. That description establishes the subjects advertised for the episode, but does not by itself establish what Cyrus said about each one in the conversation.

Across the available album coverage, the clearest account is Cyrus’s own: these songs draw on people she loves or has loved, while the record reflects her effort to make choices for herself. That supports describing the album as an exploration of relationships and independence—not as proof of unreported details about relatives or former partners.
