What happened to Nina Dobrev?
On May 20, 2024, Dobrev shared photos contrasting a bike ride with a hospital bed and said she was okay but faced a long recovery. The Los Angeles Times reported that she described her first dirt bike ride as her last. The precise date and location of the crash were not specified in the contemporaneous report.
In an August 2024 account, Dobrev said she had lost control and crashed while riding an electric dirt bike for the first time. She joked, “I don’t recommend it, guys. It’s OK, I learned a lesson: don’t ever get on a dirt bike,” as Us Weekly reported.
What injuries did she have?
Dobrev said the crash caused a completely torn ACL, a torn meniscus, and a tibial plateau fracture—a break in the upper part of the shinbone that forms part of the knee joint. She said she waited about three weeks for swelling to go down and the bone to begin healing before surgery.

When did Nina Dobrev have surgery?
She announced on June 5, 2024, that her surgery had been successful. On June 12, she described the procedure as surgery to repair her fractured knee, ACL, and meniscus, according to Us Weekly.
What was her recovery update?
In August 2024, Dobrev said she was walking with a brace and was a little ahead of schedule, while emphasizing that recovery was still a long process. “I think I’m doing pretty well,” she told the Los Angeles Times, adding that she was “a little ahead of schedule in terms of healing, but it is still a very long process.” This is the latest recovery update established by the reporting cited here; it does not confirm her condition today.
