The mutual-decision description came from sources close to the couple, not from a joint statement by Dobrev and White. The Los Angeles Times quoted an unnamed source who confirmed the account to People: “It was a mutual decision, and wasn’t an easy one, but it was made with love and a deep respect for one another.” AP separately attributed the description to a person close to the pair who spoke anonymously.
