At the Vanity Fair Oscars Party on March 15, 2026, Nicole Kidman changed into a gold Chanel gown that Vogue Germany identifies as Matthieu Blazy’s Look 37 from Chanel’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection. Its netted appearance, nude underlay and textured gold surface created the optical illusion; the look was a second Chanel outfit that evening, after Kidman’s pale-pink ceremony gown.
What Nicole Kidman wore to the Vanity Fair Oscars Party
Kidman arrived at the party in a pale-gold, long-sleeved, floor-length Chanel dress. Vogue Germany identifies it as Look 37 from the house’s Spring/Summer 2026 collection, designed by creative director Matthieu Blazy. Vogue Germany’s report describes the look’s clean lines, radiant gold color and fringed edges.
The gown followed a different Chanel look earlier in the evening: a pale-pink, feathered peplum gown worn for the ceremony carpet. Marie Claire’s live fashion updates also noted Kidman’s change into gold for the party, which guests reached from the Dolby Theatre at LACMA.
Why the gown looked like an optical illusion
AOL’s visual description calls the dress netted, with a nude underlay beneath an intricately woven, multidimensional-looking fabric and nubby gold accents. The contrast between the skin-toned base and the gold surface gave the gown its illusion effect. The account describes what the dress appeared to look like; it does not establish Chanel’s technical construction specifications.

The sleeves and hem appeared to loosen into distressed fringe. That detail, together with the full-length column silhouette, gave the dress a statuesque impression without relying on a conventional smooth metallic surface. AOL read the look as recalling Kidman’s 2001 film Moulin Rouge!; that is the publication’s interpretation, not a confirmed intention from Kidman, Chanel or her stylist.
How Kidman styled the Chanel look
Vogue Germany reports that the runway look was styled with two-tone pumps, while Kidman wore black peep-toe shoes and left her hair loose in waves. AOL also notes a black purse with a silver woven chain and a long black coat. The dark accessories set off the gold dress rather than extending its metallic palette.

Gold looks at the 2026 Oscars parties
British Vogue placed Kidman among the Vanity Fair party guests wearing gold, alongside Kim Kardashian in Gucci. Its coverage framed gold and statuette-inspired dressing as a prominent trend at the 2026 Oscars events. That is British Vogue’s characterization of the red-carpet looks, not a measured trend statistic.

In a March 16, 2026 Vogue interview about her ceremony gown, Kidman described her relationship with the house and its new creative director: “It feels new, but the history I have with the house is something I love, and to be able to move with Matthieu in this new modern iteration of Chanel is an honor.” The remark concerned her broader connection to Chanel and the ceremony look, not specifically the after-party dress.
