Nicki Minaj said she received a “Gold Trump card free of charge,” but the available reporting does not establish that she was issued a Trump Gold Card visa or received a fee waiver. The government’s program lists a $15,000 processing fee and a $1 million contribution for an individual applicant. A White House official was reported to have characterized the card Minaj displayed as a memento, not a visa document.
What Nicki Minaj said
The Los Angeles Times reported that Minaj appeared with President Donald Trump at a Trump Accounts event on January 28, 2026. In posts afterward, she wrote that she was “Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gracious, charming President” and said, “Gold Trump card free of charge.” Those are her reported statements; they do not independently verify that paperwork was filed, a visa was issued, or her immigration status changed.
What the reported card was
The Independent reported that an unnamed White House official told The New York Times that the card Minaj displayed was a memento rather than a legal visa document. This is secondhand reporting about an official’s characterization, not a publicly released government record confirming the card’s status.
How the Trump Gold Card program works
The official Trump Gold Card website describes the Gold Card as a visa based on an applicant’s ability to provide a substantial benefit to the United States. Its listed individual application amounts are a nonrefundable $15,000 Department of Homeland Security processing fee and a $1 million contribution after vetting; additional Department of State fees may apply. These are published program terms, not amounts verified as paid or waived for Minaj.

The program page says applicants must be eligible for lawful permanent resident status, admissible to the United States, and have a visa available. A visa pathway is not the same as citizenship: the White House’s September 19, 2025 fact sheet and the executive order frame the initiative as a visa program and direct agencies to establish procedures. Neither says that possessing a physical card itself grants citizenship.
The program’s timeline and reported approvals
The White House announced the program in September 2025. The Associated Press reported that it went live on December 10, 2025, describing a $1 million contribution for an individual and $2 million for a corporate-sponsored employee; for current terms, the government program page is the more direct reference. In an April 23, 2026 report, the AP said Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick had reported one person approved by that date. That is a historical, point-in-time figure, not a current approval total.
What is and is not established about Minaj
The available accounts establish that Minaj publicly described the card as free and said she was finalizing citizenship paperwork. They do not establish whether she paid anything, received a fee waiver, was issued an actual Gold Card visa, or completed naturalization. The reported memento clarification is attributed to an unnamed White House official through secondary coverage; it should not be treated as a direct public confirmation of her final immigration status.
