Rapper Nicki Minaj reportedly expressed the belief that the United States never sent astronauts to the Moon during a February 2026 appearance on The Katie Miller Podcast. That is a reported opinion, not new evidence: NASA’s historical record and the evidence reviewed by AFP support that Apollo astronauts did land on the Moon.
What did Nicki Minaj reportedly say?
In a February 4, 2026 report, Mediaite described Minaj discussing conspiracy theories with Katie Miller on The Katie Miller Podcast. According to the report, Miller raised chemtrails and listed other theories, including the claim that the Moon landing was faked. Mediaite characterized Minaj’s position as a belief that America had never actually sent astronauts to the Moon.
The complete original episode transcript was not verified, so that characterization should not be treated as a confirmed verbatim quote. The headline describes a reported belief; it does not indicate a new finding about Apollo.
Was the Moon landing faked?
No. The historical and physical evidence supports the Apollo landings. AFP’s 2024 fact-check states that six Apollo spacecraft landed on the Moon and 12 astronauts walked on its surface between 1969 and 1972. The astronauts also brought back lunar soil samples. Jack Burns, an astrophysicist at the University of Colorado Boulder, told AFP: “We have lots of proof that 12 Apollo astronauts visited the Moon and brought back lunar soil samples that are much different from that on Earth.”

What about images shared as proof of a hoax?
AFP investigated a particular set of images circulated in 2024 as supposed evidence that the landing had been faked. It found that those images first appeared on Reddit’s Midjourney channel and were AI-generated. That finding concerns the images AFP examined; it does not establish the provenance of every image used in Moon-landing conspiracy claims.
Image provenance matters: a viral image with an unclear origin is not, by itself, reliable evidence about what happened during Apollo. The AFP fact-check is a specific example of why the origin of an image should be established before drawing conclusions from it.

How long have Moon-landing conspiracy claims existed?
Claims that Apollo was a government hoax circulated even around the time of the first Moon landings, according to NASA’s historical account, Societal Impact of Spaceflight. The same volume reproduces a Gallup poll from 1999: 89% of Americans surveyed did not believe the government staged or faked the Apollo landing, 6% believed it was faked, and 5% had no opinion. Those figures describe that 1999 poll, not current public opinion.
NASA’s account also attributes this remark to Neil Armstrong: “It would have been harder to fake it than to do it.”
