Megan Thee Stallion released “Hiss” on January 26, 2024, and listeners quickly read one line as a reference to Nicki Minaj’s husband, Kenneth Petty. Minaj reacted publicly and released “Big Foot” three days later. The lyric did not name either Minaj or Petty, and the private origins of the disagreement remain unclear.
What prompted the exchange?
The immediate spark was a line in “Hiss” invoking Megan’s Law, the term for laws requiring public access to information about certain people convicted of sex offenses. TIME reproduced Megan’s lyric as: “These hoes don’t be mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan’s Law.” TIME’s January 26, 2024 report covered the track’s release.

Many listeners interpreted the line as a reference to Petty, Minaj’s husband, who is a registered sex offender. The lyric itself does not identify him, and Megan did not name Minaj or Petty in the line. That distinction matters: the reference was a widely discussed interpretation, not an explicit identification by Megan.

What does “Megan’s Law” mean in the lyric?
Megan’s Law refers to laws in the United States that require public disclosure of information about certain registered sex offenders. In this context, listeners connected the phrase to Petty and took it as a pointed reference. That reading explains why the line became central to coverage of the exchange, but it should not be mistaken for a named target in the lyric.
How did “Hiss” perform on the UK chart?
“Hiss” opened at number 31 on the UK Official Singles Chart, according to Official Charts. That is a specific UK chart result, not a complete account of the song’s performance in every country. A chart position also cannot settle a subjective question such as who “won” the exchange.

Why is the headline’s “pressed” wording not a fact?
“Pressed” is an opinionated way to characterize Minaj’s response, not an independently verifiable account of her state of mind. The documented events are that she reacted publicly after “Hiss” and released “Big Foot” on January 29. The lyric interpretation and the artists’ private motivations should remain attributed or qualified rather than presented as confirmed facts.
