The NYT Connections puzzle for Tuesday, July 1, 2025, is game #751. The groups are STEAL, DO SOME GROOMING, DAPPER, and words that come before STONE. Hints appear first below; the full grid and solution follow.

Hints for Connections #751

Try these in order, from the least revealing to the most specific:

  • Yellow: Think of words that can mean taking something illicitly.
  • Green: Think about activities involved in getting ready.
  • Blue: These words can describe a polished appearance.
  • Purple: Each word forms a familiar compound when followed by the same word associated with rock or mineral formations.

The July 1 word grid

Here are all 16 words, without group labels:

NICK · SHAVE · DRESS · POCKET · TIDY · BRUSH · SMART · KEY · TOUCH · SHOWER · PALM · SHARP · PINCH · MILE · NEAT · BIRTH

Answers and reasoning

Color Category Words Why they fit
Yellow STEAL NICK, PALM, PINCH, POCKET Each can mean to steal or take something illicitly.
Green DO SOME GROOMING BRUSH, DRESS, SHAVE, SHOWER Each describes a grooming or getting-ready activity.
Blue DAPPER NEAT, SHARP, SMART, TIDY Each can describe a neat, stylish, or well-groomed appearance.
Purple ___STONE BIRTH, KEY, MILE, TOUCH Put STONE after each word to make birthstone, keystone, milestone, and touchstone.

Why the purple answer is KEY

The purple set uses BIRTH, KEY, MILE, and TOUCH to form birthstone, keystone, milestone, and touchstone. One secondary guide prints “LEY,” but that conflicts with the puzzle grid and the other dated guides; KEY is the supported answer.

TechRadar and ComingSoon report the same four groupings; Try Hard Guides also identifies July 1 as puzzle #751. The solution is corroborated by these dated guides rather than a primary NYT archive listing: TechRadar’s July 1 guide, ComingSoon’s July 1 guide, and Try Hard Guides’ answer page.
