Reporting says one lawsuit against Steven Tyler, brought by Jeanne Bellino in New York, was dismissed in February 2026. A separate case brought by Julia Misley in California was only partly dismissed: one claim remained, and its scheduled September trial was later taken off calendar after the judge recused herself. These are distinct cases, and neither the allegations nor the rulings should be conflated.
Why the headline can refer to two different cases
There are two separate lawsuits behind reports that a Steven Tyler sexual-assault case was dismissed. Bellino’s New York case was reported dismissed in February 2026. Misley’s California case had most claims dismissed in April 2026, but one claim remained. The scope and procedural history of the rulings differ.

What happened in Julia Misley’s California case
The allegations and Tyler’s response
Misley, formerly Julia Holcomb, filed her lawsuit in December 2022. Her complaint alleged that a relationship with Tyler began in 1973, when she was 16 and he was 25, and described alleged conduct across several states. Those are allegations, not judicial findings. Tyler denied them. In a 2023 filing, he denied “generally and specifically, each and every allegation and cause of action.”
Tyler’s lawyers also filed a 2023 motion concerning memoir-based portions of Misley’s intentional-infliction-of-emotional-distress claim. They argued that statements in his memoir were protected speech and that the claim was time-barred. Those were defense arguments in a party filing, not findings about the underlying allegations.

The partial dismissal
The Los Angeles Times reported on May 1, 2026, that most of Misley’s case had been dismissed earlier that week, with the reported limitations rulings tied to Massachusetts, where the pair allegedly lived during much of the relationship. The Times said a portion of the case remained under California’s Child Victims Act revival window.
Tyler’s lawyer David Long-Daniels characterized the ruling as dismissing “99.9% of the claims.” That percentage was counsel’s description, not a court statistic. He also called the ruling “a massive win for Steven Tyler” and said only one night from the alleged three-year relationship remained. Misley’s lawyer Jeff Anderson responded: “It is time for justice and for Tyler to be held accountable by a jury.” These are statements by the parties’ lawyers, not judicial conclusions.

Is Misley’s case still going to trial?
As of the latest located reporting on September 16, 2026, no replacement trial date had been established. Judge Patricia A. Young recused herself on September 15, and the September 28 trial date was taken off calendar. Rolling Stone Canada reported that the surviving claim centered on an alleged 1974 California encounter, when Misley was 16. The Independent reported that the minute order did not explain the recusal and that a reassignment hearing was scheduled.
Young said, “As a result of the parties not waiving, I will officially disqualify.” She also said she had taken no further action on open questions after discovering the basis for disqualification. The reporting available through September 16 does not establish a new judge, replacement trial date, or final disposition; the case’s status may have changed since then.

What the dismissals do—and do not—mean
- Bellino’s reported New York dismissal does not mean Misley’s separate California case was over.
- The partial dismissal in Misley’s case does not mean every claim was dismissed; reporting says one claim remained.
- A dismissal on limitations grounds addresses whether a claim may proceed under applicable law and deadlines; it is not, by itself, a finding that allegations are true or false.
- The surviving claim and the trial-date change are procedural developments, not a verdict on the allegations.
