That was a stated campaign target, not evidence that the series attracted viewers in that age group or changed votes.
What was Please Explain?
One Nation launched Please Explain as an animated political satire featuring Hanson as a young teacher in a classroom populated by caricatures of Australian politicians. The contemporaneous launch report described figures including Barnaby Joyce, Scott Morrison and Craig Kelly, alongside gags involving politicians from across the political spectrum. Hanson voiced her own character, according to PerthNow’s 12 November 2021 report.
One Nation’s pitch, quoted in a later scholarly study, called the series a way to “deliver a humorous yet sobering glimpse into the Australian political arena.” The party also presented it as partly educational; those are the party’s descriptions, not independent measures of its educational value.
Who was it intended to reach, and where was it shown?
PerthNow reported at launch that the series was intended to “capture voters in the 19-35 year old demographic.” The article described a planned run of 20 shows, each two minutes long, for Facebook, TikTok, Instagram and Twitter. Those figures describe the plan reported in November 2021—not confirmed audience demographics or the series’ final length.

A 2024 peer-reviewed study by Andrew McSwiney and Maryam Sengul retrospectively describes Please Explain as a 34-part, two-dimensional series that ran from November 2021 through June 2022. It gives episode lengths of two to five minutes and identifies distribution on the major social platforms and One Nation’s website. The different episode counts reflect a launch plan and a later account of the completed series, rather than a single count reported at the same time. The study is published in Television & New Media.
How did researchers interpret the series?
McSwiney and Sengul examine the cartoons through critical discourse and thematic analysis, placing them in the context of political campaigning and noting the classroom framing and influence of South Park. Their analysis argues that the series’ humor can normalize exclusionary expression. That is the authors’ interpretation of the material, rather than an uncontested description of how every viewer understood it.

What was the later AEC controversy?
In April 2022, a later Please Explain cartoon drew complaints from the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) to social platforms because it made false claims about voter fraud, including claims concerning deceased voters, stolen postal ballots and the 2010 election. ABC News reported on 29 April 2022 that, at the time, the video had been removed from Hanson’s Facebook and TikTok accounts, while a Twitter version carried a misleading-content warning. Those platform details describe the situation reported then, not current availability or status.
The AEC said it had safeguards for removing deceased people from the electoral roll and validating postal votes. Its spokesperson, Evan Ekin-Smyth, said: “There is no evidence that the level of apparent multiple voting in Australia has ever been sufficient to overturn the margin in any one contest.” Hanson responded to the cartoon’s removal by saying, “Sometimes the truth hurts, so I won’t be taking down the cartoon on any social media platform,” according to ABC News.

ABC News reported that the disputed cartoon had almost 100,000 views across platforms at the time of its report. That figure refers to the later voter-fraud cartoon, not the entire series or its launch.
Was Please Explain made into a feature film?
On 2 October 2025, One Nation announced that the cartoon series was being adapted into a 90-minute feature planned for Australia Day. The announcement establishes the party’s plan, but does not confirm whether or when the film was released. One Nation’s announcement is evidence of what it said it intended, not proof of completion.

What is established about its reach?
The available reporting and study establish the campaign’s intended audience, distribution plans and the series’ reported run. They do not establish the ages of its viewers, whether it converted young people into voters, or whether it had an electoral effect. The AEC controversy and the view count reported for one cartoon should not be treated as evidence of those outcomes.
