No: the One Piece anime is not ending. Toei Animation announced a move to a two-cour schedule beginning in 2026, with a maximum of 26 new episodes a year. The change ends its familiar long-running broadcast cadence, not the series itself. The phrase “Season One” is not an official season name in Toei’s announcement.
What changed in the One Piece anime schedule?
In an October 28, 2025 announcement, Toei Animation said the series would move to two cours—broadcast blocks or parts—per year from 2026, with up to 26 new episodes annually. “Up to” is a ceiling, not a guarantee that every year will have exactly 26 episodes. Toei also announced a production hiatus from January through March 2026, with the first cour due to begin in April. Toei Animation’s schedule announcement describes the show as a long-running episodic series that debuted on Japanese television in 1999.

When does One Piece return with new episodes?
ORICON reported that episode 1180, broadcast on Fuji TV in Japan on September 27, 2026, was the final TV anime episode of that year. Its report said the next new episode would air in 2027, but gave no specific return date. ORICON’s September 27, 2026 report

Why is Toei changing the format?
Toei described the change as a production strategy intended to advance and evolve the anime. Series producer Ryūta Koike said the new structure is meant to let episodes incorporate more of the manga’s content, tempo, and pacing while preserving storytelling that works specifically in animation. That is Toei’s stated aim, not evidence that the new episodes have already improved in quality.
In comments reported by ORICON, Koike said the maximum of 26 episodes was intended to let viewers enjoy roughly one manga chapter as one anime episode. He also said the team wanted to strengthen production as the story moves into the core of the One Piece world. These comments explain the intended approach; the cited sources do not provide an independent measurement of adaptation pace or production quality.

Toei has previously characterized the older approach as adapting 4–5 manga volumes across 11–12 anime episodes. That is the studio’s description, not a year-by-year audit of every arc. The available figures do not support calculating a precise average for all 26 years of the anime’s broadcast.
Does “Season One” mean the show is being rebooted or cancelled?
No. Toei’s announcement calls One Piece a long-running episodic series and describes a schedule restructuring, not a cancellation or a new official season called “Season One.” In this context, “26 years” refers to the span since the 1999 Japanese TV debut. The practical change is fewer scheduled new episodes and breaks between broadcast blocks, not an announced end to the story.

Where can you watch or read One Piece?
Toei’s catalogue lists digital platforms including Crunchyroll, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video, but availability and catalogue completeness vary by country and can change. Check your local service catalogue for current episodes. Toei also identifies the anime as an adaptation of the manga; anyone wishing to follow the source story can look for One Piece manga volume 1 through a local bookseller.
