In July 2018, PerthNow reported that Ninja Warrior contestant Bronson Foxx Norrish posted video of himself standing largely outside a moving electric car on the Eyre Highway. Western Australia Police Minister Michelle Roberts called the stunt “just plain stupid.”
What PerthNow reported about the video
In a report published on 6 July 2018, PerthNow identified Norrish as a Perth businessman and a contestant on the upcoming Ninja Warrior television series. It said he posted an Instagram video as an update on his self-described attempt to drive an electric car from Melbourne to Perth.
According to the report, the footage showed Norrish standing on the car seat and largely outside through the sunroof while the vehicle travelled along the Eyre Highway. When the camera pointed down, PerthNow said a device fastened to the steering wheel was visible and Norrish said, “no hands.” The report did not identify or explain the device.
PerthNow framed the journey as Norrish’s self-proclaimed electric-car record attempt; it did not establish that an official record was recognized. This account reflects what PerthNow reported, not an independent review of the Instagram post or verification of the drive. Read PerthNow’s report, published 6 July 2018.
#1 Best Overall
- NINJA WARRIOR OBSTACLE COURSE FOR KIDS OUTSIDE - Turn any two trees into a backyard ninja course. Two 55ft slacklines carry 10 adjustable obstacles, so kids climb, swing and balance their way across instead of sitting in front of a screen. Builds real grip strength, coordination and confidence while it just feels like playing.
- 10 OBSTACLES IN ONE BOX, NOT A STARTER SET - Includes 2x 55ft slacklines with high-grade ratchets, 2x monkey bars, 2x gymnastic rings, monkey fist, seat swing, ninja wheel, rope ladder, 12in x 12in climbing cargo net, 2x tree protectors, 17x buckle straps and a carry bag. Arrives gift-boxed, ready to give.
- RATED TO 450LB AND BACKED FOR 5 YEARS - The full line is rated to 450 lb total, so several kids can play at once. Two-inch wide, 4mm thick polyester webbing, nylon, wood and metal construction with stainless steel fasteners, anti-rust coated hardware and reinforced buckles that hold tension instead of slipping. Covered by a 5-year manufacturer warranty.
- SETS UP IN UNDER 30 MINUTES, NO TOOLS - Three steps: wrap the tree protectors, feed the ratchet, clip on the obstacles. No drilling, no hardware, no posts to sink. Needs two solid trees 15-45ft apart; the wider span lets you loop the line properly around each trunk, and the protectors mean the bark takes none of the load. Packs back into the carry bag for the park or the campsite.
- GROWS WITH THEM, AGES 5 AND UP - Slide the obstacles anywhere along the line and set the spacing to match the child, so a five-year-old and a twelve-year-old get a different course from the same kit. A birthday and Christmas gift that gets used all summer. Adult supervision recommended.
Why the stunt drew criticism
The headline phrase came from Western Australia Police Minister Michelle Roberts. PerthNow quoted her as saying: “The only thing he is likely to break is his neck.”
The report said Instagram users condemned the act and quoted two comments, including one telling Norrish to get back in the car. It presented the footage as a reckless driving stunt on a public highway, but did not provide an independent account of the road conditions or the car’s operation.

What the report said about fatigue
PerthNow also described other video updates as suggesting that Norrish was driving fatigued. It quoted him saying, “I’ve got three more days of no sleep,” while leaving Adelaide, and later saying he was “working on four hours sleep over the past 48 hours.” These are statements attributed to Norrish in the report’s account of his updates; they do not independently verify how much he slept or the circumstances of the journey.
