Clearwater police crash-scene photographs from Nick “Hogan” Bollea’s 2007 crash were reported released in a March 13, 2008 article by Autoblog. That report is distinct from TMZ’s earlier photographs of the wrecked car and its later coverage of police records. The agency’s exact release date and the complete number of police photographs have not been independently established.

What the March 2008 report said

On March 13, 2008, Autoblog reported that Clearwater police crash-scene photographs from the wreck had been released and published a gallery described as images taken by police. The article’s page is not available for independent verification here, so its report supports the existence of a police-photo gallery, but not a verified count or proof that the gallery contained every photograph. The date is the date of Autoblog’s report; the police department’s actual release date is not confirmed. Autoblog’s March 13, 2008 report.

Date Material What was reported
August 27, 2007 Photographs of the wrecked Toyota Supra TMZ said it had obtained photographs taken shortly after the crash. This was early media coverage, not the later police-photo release. TMZ’s August 27, 2007 report.
November 27, 2007 Witness 911 calls and the crash investigation report TMZ reported that Clearwater police had released these records. That report concerned calls and an investigation document, not the March 2008 photo gallery. TMZ’s November 27, 2007 report.

What happened in the crash

The crash occurred in Clearwater, Florida, on August 26, 2007. A contemporaneous CBS/AP report said 17-year-old Bollea was driving a Toyota Supra on State Road 60 when it lost control, hit a raised median and struck a palm tree. Passenger John Graziano, then 22, was reported in critical condition at the time. CBS/AP’s contemporaneous report.

In that initial account, Clearwater Police spokesman Wayne Shelor said, “It’s clear from the scene and other factors that excessive speed … was a factor in the crash.” This was an early assessment attributed to the spokesman, not a final reconstruction established by the photo-release report.

What the available reporting does not establish

  • The precise date Clearwater police made the photographs public.
  • The total number of images in the official set, or whether the Autoblog gallery represented the complete set.
  • A currently verified location for a complete official photo archive.

The reports document different materials published at different times. They do not establish that the August 2007 TMZ images and March 2008 police images were the same photographs.
