The dispute played out through interviews, public remarks and music that listeners and journalists often interpreted as responses. Kim later expressed goodwill toward Minaj while keeping her grievance unresolved; later coverage says the feud quieted, but does not establish a private reconciliation or their current relationship.
What started the feud?
The public record does not settle a private beginning. Before tensions escalated, Minaj praised Kim in an interview, saying she had met her and had nothing against her. Kim later challenged Minaj’s account of their early interactions, disputing who had shown whom respect. Those competing recollections should be treated as claims, not a settled account of what happened between them. Complex’s chronology describes the early history.

By 2010, Kim was accusing Minaj of taking subliminal shots at her and other female rappers. At a performance, Kim framed the issue around paying homage and showing respect. The central dispute, as it became public, was therefore both about how Kim felt Minaj had treated her and about Kim’s allegation that Minaj had taken from her style. A contemporaneous timeline from Vibe and Complex’s account document the public escalation.
How did Pink Friday and Black Friday become part of the story?
Minaj’s Pink Friday and Kim’s Black Friday became symbolic reference points in coverage of the dispute. Reports characterized Kim’s release as a response to Minaj’s album. That context does not establish that every lyric on either release was aimed at the other artist; specific song-to-person readings should be identified as interpretations unless an artist or reliable reporting confirms the target. Complex’s history connects the releases, while its chronology of the exchange notes that some songs were only thought to be about Kim.

What happened during the public exchange?
In 2011 and 2012, Kim continued to say that Minaj copied her and had not shown proper respect. Minaj’s music and public remarks were frequently discussed as possible replies, but not every presumed reference was confirmed. The distinction matters: Kim’s accusations and direct remarks are part of the record; an audience’s interpretation of a lyric is not proof of its intended target. Vibe’s timeline captures reporting during the dispute, and Complex’s account provides broader chronology.
Did Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj reconcile?
In an August 2018 interview with Real 92.3, as reported by ET, Kim said, “God bless [Nicki], I wish her the best.” She also said Minaj knew what she had done and hoped she would “do the right thing.” Kim’s comments expressed goodwill but left the grievance in place; they were not a clear announcement that the two had reconciled.

In the same interview, discussing Minaj’s album title, Kim said: “I don’t really care about that either. I was named that, I never named myself that. It’s a difference.” The remark reflects Kim’s own view of the name and the dispute; it does not resolve the broader allegations about influence or respect. ET’s report carries the interview comments.

A 2024 retrospective from Complex described the feud as having quieted and reported that Minaj later acknowledged Kim’s resilience and contributions. That supports saying the public dispute cooled; it does not verify a private reconciliation or establish the artists’ present-day relationship. The available public record is clearer about what they said during and after the feud than about how they relate privately today.
