Tommaso Cioni’s current whereabouts have not been publicly confirmed in the reporting available as of September 2026. Claims that he left Arizona have not been independently verified. Neither point establishes that he is missing, evading investigators, or involved in Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance.
What is publicly known about Tommaso Cioni’s whereabouts?
Two September 2026 reports address the question, but neither confirms Cioni’s present location. International Business Times Singapore reported on September 22 that his whereabouts had not been publicly confirmed. International Business Times UK reported on September 14 that claims he had left Arizona were unverified. These reports describe the limits of public information; they do not establish where he is physically located.
Cioni has been identified in reporting as Nancy Guthrie’s son-in-law. Pima County’s case timeline says he dropped her at home at approximately 9:48 p.m. on January 31, 2026. That reported contact explains why his name appears in coverage, but it is not evidence of involvement in her disappearance.
What do authorities say about Nancy Guthrie’s disappearance?
The FBI says Guthrie was last seen at her home in Tucson’s Catalina Foothills neighborhood on the evening of January 31, 2026. The FBI described her as a vulnerable adult who has difficulty walking, has a pacemaker, and needs daily medication for a heart condition. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are investigating. The FBI’s February 5, 2026 release listed a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to her recovery and/or the arrest and conviction of anyone involved; that is the amount stated in the dated release, not a confirmation of the current reward.

In a February 10 release, the FBI described surveillance footage showing an armed, unidentified individual who appeared to tamper with the front-door camera on the morning of January 31. The FBI source does not identify that person. The footage therefore does not support claims about Cioni’s identity or role. The FBI release contains the agency’s description of the photos and video.
How have investigators characterized ransom messages?
In a July 1, 2026 report, the Associated Press quoted an FBI statement saying the case continued to be investigated as a kidnapping-for-ransom case. The AP also reported that some messages had been discounted while others were still being evaluated at that time. That July report concerns the messages then under review.

On September 29, 2026, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said a possible ransom message reported the previous day was not credible to the investigation, according to FOX 10 Phoenix. The department urged people to report case-related messages to law enforcement and watch for scammers. This later assessment addressed a separate possible message; it should not be conflated with the FBI’s July comments. FOX 10’s report covers the September update.
What about reports of human remains found nearby?
The Associated Press reported that human remains found about 15 miles from Guthrie’s home in August 2026 did not appear connected to the investigation, citing the sheriff’s department. The remains were not identified as Guthrie’s in that report, and the finding did not resolve the case. The Daily Beast reported the department’s assessment on August 17.

How to treat claims about Cioni
A family relationship, a reported last contact, or the absence of a public statement does not establish wrongdoing. Online speculation about Cioni’s location should not be repeated as fact. The available reports do not confirm that he left Arizona or provide a reliable basis for asserting his current whereabouts.
For case information, use official agency updates rather than attempting to contact or investigate private individuals. The FBI’s February 5 release lists 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) and tips.fbi.gov for information. The FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Department are the agencies investigating the disappearance.
