The Wednesday, October 29, 2025, NYT Strands puzzle is game #605. Its theme clue is “Nevermore!” The spangram is THATSSORAVEN; the five other theme words are BLACK, CLEVER, WINGED, FEATHERED and OMNIVOROUS.

What is the theme of today’s NYT Strands?

The theme clue is “Nevermore!” A less direct literary hint is Edgar Allan Poe. The clue points toward Poe’s poem The Raven; that connection is an interpretation of the puzzle, not a formal explanation from NYT. TechRadar and Parade both identify the clue.

What are the hints for the non-spangram words?

The first two letters of the five regular theme words are BL, CL, WI, FE and OM. If you want a stronger nudge, the five clue words TechRadar says can unlock the in-game hint system are ROSE, WIDE, TRACKER, HEAT and DIVE.

How many letters are in the spangram, and where is it?

The spangram has 12 letters. TechRadar says it touches the left and right sides of the board at row six; Parade describes its orientation as mostly vertical. Those are the outlets’ descriptions of the grid, rather than a single combined path description.

How do Strands hints work?

Parade reproduces NYT’s gameplay instructions: “Find theme words to fill the board.” Drag or tap letters to form words; when tapping, double-tap the final letter to submit. The spangram describes the theme and touches two opposite sides of the board, and it may consist of two words. For every three non-theme words you find, you earn a hint. Parade says a hint reveals the letters of a theme word, and if a hint is already active, the next one reveals that word’s letter order.

Which October 29 puzzle is this?

This answer key is for Wednesday, October 29, 2025, Strands #605. The title’s missing year could otherwise cause confusion: TechRadar’s October 28 report and Parade’s October 29 report both identify the 2025 puzzle as #605.
