How Strands hints work

Strands hides theme-related words in a letter grid. Its spangram is a theme-defining word or phrase that stretches between opposite sides of the board. The hint words above are optional: use them to earn an in-game clue, or skip them and work from the theme nudge.

The date and answers are consistent across the three cited puzzle guides. The NYT archive board was not directly verified, so these are corroborated guide answers rather than a claim of direct archive confirmation.
