How to approach the groups
Start with the most concrete vocabulary
“Fore!” points toward golf. Look for scoring terms relative to par: a birdie is one under par, a bogey one over, an eagle two under, and par is the expected score for a hole or course. These four words form the yellow group.
Check whether words make a formal name
NATIONAL, WOMEN’S, BASKETBALL, and ASSOCIATION combine to form the league’s name: the Women’s National Basketball Association. The words are separated in the grid, so try assembling the full phrase rather than treating them as unrelated sports vocabulary.
Distinguish judged events from timed or measured ones
DIVING, FIGURE SKATING, GYMNASTICS, and SKATEBOARDING can all include judging. The category is about sports in which judges assess performances, not simply events whose results are determined by a clock or distance.

AMERICA’S, RYDER, STANLEY, and WORLD each precede “Cup.” That phrase link is the purple category; the clue “Drinking vessel” nudges toward the word cup rather than toward a sport.
