How Connections Sports Edition works
Connections gives players 16 words to sort into four groups of four, each linked by a shared theme. The groups are assigned colors: yellow is the easiest and purple the trickiest. Some words may appear to fit more than one category, which is part of the challenge. The New York Times Help Center describes Sports Edition as the sports version of Connections, brought to solvers by The Athletic, with the same rules. The daily puzzle releases at midnight in the player’s timezone. NYT Help Center: Connections

- Yellow: “Touch ’em all!”
- Green: “It’s outta here!”
- Blue: “Working one’s way up to the majors.”
- Purple: “Unscramble these words.”
