Hints for February 12’s Connections: Sports Edition
The puzzle presents 16 words to sort into four groups of four. NYT’s Help Center says the game’s categories are color-coded Yellow, Green, Blue and Purple, from easiest to trickiest; Sports Edition follows the same rules.
- Yellow: A thought-out plan or approach
- Green: These teams are all from the same state
- Blue: Common items sold at a game
- Purple: These no longer exist

Yellow — Strategy
GAMBIT, MANEUVER, MOVE, TACTIC
Green — Current Minnesota Teams

Why the groupings can be tricky
Sports associations can make individual tiles seem to fit more than one group. The key distinction in this board is that GOLDEN GOPHERS belongs with the current Minnesota teams, while GOLDEN SEALS belongs among the former NHL teams. Sort by the full shared category, not by an overlapping word or a general sports connection.

Can you replay the February 12, 2025 Sports Edition puzzle?
The NYT Help Center says Sports Edition has no archive, so its standard Connections archive should not be assumed to include this older Sports Edition board. The Help Center says standard Connections archive access is available to All Access and Games subscribers; that is a separate archive policy. It also says the daily game releases at midnight in the player’s timezone and that standard Connections is available on the NYT website and in its Games and News apps.
