My Hero Academia: Vigilantes is no longer just an announced adaptation: the official BONES site lists season 2 as on air from January 5, 2026. The anime adapts the official spin-off manga, a prequel that follows people trying to help without the license or public standing of professional heroes.
Is My Hero Academia: Vigilantes getting an anime?
Yes. The adaptation was officially announced on December 22, 2024, with an initial broadcast window of April 2025. That date is now historical, not a future release target. BONES’ official anime page lists season 2 as on air from January 5, 2026. The original announcement and BONES’ current series listing establish those milestones.
What is Vigilantes about?
The story takes place several years before the main My Hero Academia series, in a society where people with superpowers—called Quirks—are commonplace. Its focus is not on licensed heroes operating in the spotlight, but on people who step in to help without official authorization.
Koichi Haimawari is a college student who once dreamed of becoming a hero. He gets drawn into vigilante work with Pop☆Step and the masked Knuckleduster. The premise asks whether people acting outside the official system are criminals or vigilantes. The anime’s official introduction describes a fictional society in which about 80% of the world’s population has abilities; that is part of the story’s setting, not a real-world statistic. How is the anime connected to My Hero Academia?
Vigilantes is an official spin-off set several years before the main story. It is based on the original work of My Hero Academia creator Kohei Horikoshi, and expands the setting by following unlicensed helpers rather than centering its story on the main series’ licensed hero system. Its prequel setting makes it a separate storyline within the same franchise.
Who is making the adaptation?
The anime is produced by BONES Film. The official staff listing credits Kenichi Suzuki as director, Yosuke Kuroda for series composition and scripts, and Takahiko Yoshida for character design. The official staff and cast page provides the credited roles.

Where can you watch Vigilantes?
Crunchyroll reported in June 2025 that season 2 would premiere in 2026 and stream on its service. That announcement does not establish current availability in every country, which seasons or episodes are currently in a particular catalog, or what subscription is required. Check the service’s catalog for your region before making a viewing plan. Crunchyroll’s season 2 announcement covers its streaming plan.
