Germain Lussier’s April 12, 2024 report for Gizmodo described the footage as more brutal than comparable moments in earlier Alien films, while noting that it left the movie’s larger story unclear.
What happened in the Facehugger scene?
The first scene takes place aboard a Weyland-Yutani ship, where several crew members are separated behind a locked door. As they try to solve the problem, a synthetic is rebooted and pods begin moving and hatching. One woman finds an “X-Ray torch,” a device the preview shows being used to reveal what is happening inside a body.

The action moves to a flooded room. Facehuggers swim toward and attack the people there, while more continue hatching. The crew escapes as the creatures pursue them, but one Facehugger attaches to a woman’s face. Lussier estimated that the scene showed “probably two dozen Facehuggers”; that was his visual estimate, not a measured count.
How did the chestburster sequence unfold?
In the later scene, the woman who was attacked feels ill and scans her chest with the X-ray torch. The footage shows something moving inside her and striking at her ribs. Panic follows as part of the ship separates. The creature breaks through her chest in chunks; the sequence ends with an explosion and glimpses of a full Xenomorph.

- This truly terrifying sci-fi horror-thriller takes the legendary ?Alien? franchise back to its iconic roots. While scavenging the deep ends of a derelict space station, a group of young colonizers come face-to-face with the deadliest life form in the universe. Warning: Some flashing-lights scenes in this film may affect photosensitive viewers.
Why did the preview describe the scene as especially brutal?
The report’s comparison was about the visceral impact of the screened footage, not an objective measurement against earlier films. Lussier said the chestburster moment seemed more brutal than comparable scenes in the franchise, using a wall-smashing analogy to convey its force. The preview emphasized the familiar creatures—Facehuggers, a chestburster, and a full Xenomorph—while presenting their treatment as particularly intense.

It established that the preview included extended creature-attack and chestburster sequences, but not a complete plot synopsis. Lussier wrote that the story was still unclear from what was shown. The report identified Fede Alvarez as director, named Cailee Spaeny and Isabela Merced among the stars, and identified David Jonsson as synthetic Andy in a caption.

At the time of that April 12, 2024 report, the planned theatrical release date was August 16, 2024. That date is the historical timing given in the preview, not a current release listing. The account describes footage screened at CinemaCon; it should not be treated as a scene-by-scene account of the finished film.
