KnoWay is a fictional driverless-vehicle company in GTA Online, not a real robotaxi operator. Its story, introduced in the released A Safehouse in the Hills update, centers on a five-mission effort to stop the company from building a clandestine surveillance network in Los Santos.
What is KnoWay Out in GTA Online?
KnoWay Out is a five-mission story strand in GTA Online. In Rockstar’s premise, the autonomous-vehicle start-up uses a fleet of driverless SUVs to build a secret surveillance network across Los Santos. Avi Schwartzman contacts the player with information about the company and enlists them to disrupt the scheme. Rockstar’s mission description says players can learn more by answering a public phone and completing a mission for Avi; the page’s surfaced description is in Spanish, so this is an English paraphrase.

Rockstar’s promotional description, quoted by TechCrunch, calls the story a chance to “stop the development of a mass surveillance network in an all-new action-packed adventure.” The language describes the game’s fictional plot, not a real-world surveillance finding.
Is the DLC still upcoming?
No. The “upcoming” wording belongs to the original TechCrunch headline, published December 5, 2025, ahead of Rockstar’s announced December 10 release of A Safehouse in the Hills. Rockstar’s Title Update 1.72 notes document the released update, including its new properties, missions, vehicles, and mission creator. The same notes identify KnoWay Out as a five-mission strand for one to four players, with awards and Career Progress challenges.

Rockstar also documented a January 2026 fix for a progression issue in “KnoWay Out – Tunnel Vision”: if a train started before a hack was completed, a player could be left unable to move. That fix is part of the official maintenance record for the live content.
What does “chaos” mean in the trailer?
TechCrunch’s December 5, 2025 report described the trailer as showing sensor-equipped vans swerving, wrecking cars, and hitting a billboard. It was unclear from the footage whether the vehicles had been hijacked or had gone rogue; the trailer spectacle alone does not establish the explanation within the story. TechCrunch also noted that Waymo declined to comment. Its report quoted Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana as saying the company was “very focused on working with law enforcement to make sure that we pursue the people who are committing these crimes against our fleet.” That statement is attributed here to Mawakana as quoted by TechCrunch.

There is a separate, confirmed in-game issue: Rockstar’s October 1, 2026 Title Update 1.73 notes say the update fixed an issue that caused KnoWay taxis to appear unexpectedly in Freemode. This confirms an unexpected-spawn bug was recorded and fixed; it does not show that every apparent taxi collision or erratic encounter is intended gameplay.
How to access the KnoWay missions
Rockstar says a luxury property is not required to reach the KnoWay story missions. The official mission description points players toward answering a public phone and completing a mission for Avi. The update notes also say Avi contacts players with information about the new self-driving taxi company. These are the documented access details; the mission strand is not described as a separately sold DLC.

Fictional robotaxis, real-world debate
KnoWay borrows the vocabulary and visual cues of real autonomous vehicles to set up a fictional Los Santos conspiracy. TechCrunch connected the trailer’s surveillance theme to public debate about autonomous vehicles, but the game’s company and alleged network should not be treated as evidence about any real operator. The useful distinction is between Rockstar’s invented plot, the trailer’s deliberately unclear vehicle behavior, and a specific Freemode taxi-spawn bug that Rockstar later listed as fixed.
