Netflix’s live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins is an eight-episode origin story about the first case that brings Mystery Inc. together. Netflix says it is expected to stream in 2027, but has not announced an exact premiere date. The idea that it will “fill the void” left by The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is a viewer-facing comparison, not a role Netflix has officially assigned to the show.
What is Netflix’s live-action Scooby-Doo series?
Scooby-Doo: Origins reimagines the gang’s first case as a live-action mystery. Netflix describes the story as the terrifying case that brings the future Mystery Inc. members together. The 2025 announcement specifies an eight-episode series; a later Netflix update said production had wrapped by September 2026. Netflix’s series announcement and updates
Netflix has also described this production’s Scooby as the franchise’s first-ever real-dog Scooby-Doo. That distinguishes the portrayal, but the official description still presents the project as a live-action origin story rather than a documentary or a continuation of a prior series.
When will Scooby-Doo: Origins come out?
Netflix says the series is expected to stream in 2027. Its official updates do not give a month or day, so there is no confirmed premiere date to mark on the calendar yet. The production-wrap update was published September 13, 2026. Netflix Tudum’s Scooby-Doo coverage

Is it connected to The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina?
No story, continuity, or production connection between the two series is established in Netflix’s official descriptions. Nor does Netflix say that Scooby-Doo: Origins is intended to replace Sabrina or take over its audience. “Filling the void” is best understood as an editorial comparison, not an announced Netflix strategy.

The comparison is understandable at a broad level: both are Netflix series with coming-of-age elements and supernatural or eerie subject matter. But the official descriptions point to different premises and tones:
| Dimension | The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina | Scooby-Doo: Origins |
|---|---|---|
| Official framing | A dark coming-of-age story involving horror, the occult, and witchcraft. Netflix Tudum’s series description | A live-action origin story centered on the first case that brings Mystery Inc. together. Netflix Tudum’s series announcement |
| Format and status | An existing Netflix series. | An upcoming eight-episode live-action series; production had wrapped by September 2026, with streaming expected in 2027. Netflix Tudum’s Scooby-Doo coverage |
| Confirmed relationship | No connection to Scooby-Doo: Origins is established in the official sources cited. | No connection to The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is established in the official sources cited. |
That makes the comparison more useful as a question of mood and audience interest than as a claim about shared storytelling: viewers looking for another supernatural coming-of-age show may be curious, but Netflix has not presented Scooby-Doo: Origins as a witchcraft drama. Its confirmed hook is a mystery that introduces the gang.
