In an October 21, 2024 snapshot, MeriStation reported that it had a 9.04 IMDb user rating and was then the highest-rated anime released that year on IMDb. That was a dated, platform-specific ranking—not a permanent award or a universal anime ranking.
What is One Piece Fan Letter?
One Piece Fan Letter is a reported 24-minute anime short made to mark the franchise’s 25th anniversary. MeriStation described it as based on One Piece Novel: Straw Hat Stories and focused on ordinary people in the Grand Line whose lives are touched by the Straw Hats. Its central story follows a girl from Sabaody who admires Nami and hopes to meet her when the crew arrives. MeriStation’s October 2024 report

What did the 2024 ranking claim mean?
The IMDb and MyAnimeList figures reported at the time refer to different services and different comparison sets. Neither should be treated as a current rating.
| Service and list | Reported position or score | Snapshot and source |
|---|---|---|
| IMDb, anime released in 2024 | 9.04 user rating; reported as the highest-rated anime release of 2024 on IMDb | MeriStation, October 21, 2024. Source |
| MyAnimeList, all-time anime list | No. 2 at 9.26; Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End was No. 1 at 9.32 and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood No. 3 at 9.09 | ComicBook.com, October 22, 2024. Source |
The IMDb figure was a user-score snapshot within a 2024-release comparison. The MyAnimeList figure was a reported rank and score on that service’s all-time list. Because both ratings are user-generated and can change, these October 2024 reports do not establish Fan Letter’s rank or score in 2026.

#1 Best Overall
- The world's greatest exposition of the pirates, by the pirates, for the pirates - the Pirates Festival. Luffy and the rest of the Straw Hat Crew receive an invitation from its host Buena Festa who is known as the Master of Festivities. They arrive to find a venue packed with glamorous pavilions and many pirates including the ones from the Worst Generation. The place is electric.
Why is the special’s perspective different?
Rather than telling another Straw Hat-centered adventure, the short shifts attention to people living in the world the crew travels through. The Sabaody admirer’s attempt to see Nami gives the anniversary story a ground-level viewpoint: the pirates’ reputations and actions matter to ordinary residents as well as to the main cast. The premise and source-novel connection were reported by MeriStation.
Does the claim mean it was the year’s top anime everywhere?
No. The headline refers to contemporaneous coverage of IMDb’s 2024 anime ratings. MyAnimeList’s all-time list is a separate ranking, and annual lists on other services use their own rules. For example, ABEMA’s 2024 ranking was based on viewing and comment data for titles aired or streamed on ABEMA, so it is not the basis for the IMDb claim. ORICON’s report on ABEMA’s ranking

Where can viewers check availability?
MeriStation reported Crunchyroll availability in October 2024, but that report does not establish where the special is currently available in every country. Toei Animation’s April 8, 2026 notice says the ongoing One Piece anime resumed simulcast with the Elbaph arc on April 5, 2026, with weekly Sunday episodes; it lists Crunchyroll for EMEA and Netflix globally for that simulcast. Those platform details apply to the ongoing series and do not confirm that Fan Letter is available on either service in a viewer’s territory. Toei Animation’s announcement
