Gamescom Opening Night Live 2024 featured a mix of new game reveals, trailers, gameplay, release-date news and platform updates—not just brand-new games. The two-hour showcase took place in Cologne on August 20, hosted by Geoff Keighley with Eefje Depoortere (Sjokz) as co-host. Its headline new reveals included Borderlands 4, Reanimal, The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 and Masters of Albion.
What was newly revealed at ONL 2024?
The clearest way to read the announcements is to separate newly revealed titles from updates to games audiences already knew about. Event coverage identified these as prominent new reveals:
| Title | What was announced | Timing reported at the event |
|---|---|---|
| Borderlands 4 | A surprise reveal at the start of the main show. Its teaser showed a cracked or scarred planet and the series’ mask. | Epic Games Store reported a planned 2025 release at the time. Epic Games Store event guide |
| Reanimal | Tarsier Studios revealed a horror adventure combining cinematic platforming, puzzles and co-op. | No release timing is stated in the cited roundup. GameSpot announcement roundup |
| The Dark Pictures Anthology: Directive 8020 | A new entry in the existing anthology, this time a sci-fi horror story with gameplay changes. | No release timing is stated in the cited roundup. GameSpot announcement roundup |
| Masters of Albion | Peter Molyneux revealed a new god game he had been working on. | No release date is stated in the cited roundup. GameSpot announcement roundup |
Two other announcements came before the main broadcast. During the preshow, Saber Interactive and Focus Entertainment announced RoadCraft, a simulation game about using vehicles to restore damaged industrial sites. Keeping it distinct from the main-show reveals matters when recounting the programme. Epic Games Store event guide
Which other games received trailers or major updates?
Several of the showcase’s most prominent segments concerned sequels, remasters or games already announced. They were significant announcements, but not all were first reveals.
