Shankar said the scene was not meant simply to shock viewers. It is a grim alternate-world take on a familiar Ubisoft character—not a claim about Rayman across the games.
What happens to Rayman in episode five?
In an interview with What’s on Netflix, interviewer Kasey Moore described an episode-five moment in which Rayman is “lulled out on the sofa, snorting some powdery stuff, and completely drunk.” Shankar responded that the scene was not intended as shock for shock’s sake: “I do want to say that this wasn’t about shock value. It wasn’t like, ‘ha, ha, look, look at what I can get away with.’”
That account supports describing Rayman as intoxicated and snorting a powdery substance. It does not identify the substance, establish a diagnosis, or provide a full account of the scene.
Why is Rayman in Captain Laserhawk?
Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is an adult animated dystopian crossover built around characters remixed from Ubisoft franchises. The official Ubisoft announcement describes Dolph Laserhawk, a super-soldier imprisoned in Eden, a violent technocracy, and forced to lead rebel outcasts on undercover missions. The series draws inspiration from Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

- Experience wireless local multiplayer with up to four friends
- Play new features in kung foot Tournament mode
- Use the touchscreen to take out enemies, manipulate platforms, cut ropes to clear a path, and more
- Jump to the beat of a drum, where timing and rhythm are the key to beating the game's maps set to music
Rayman is a supporting character in that remixed setting, not the lead of a Rayman series. Ubisoft describes the show’s characters as part of an alternate, irreverent take on its franchises. The scene is therefore best understood as this series’ particular interpretation, not evidence of a franchise-wide change to Rayman.
What kind of show is it?
Ubisoft calls Captain Laserhawk its first adult animation series. Netflix lists the 2023 title as TV-MA and categorizes it as anime, adult animation, action, and science fiction. Netflix’s listing and age descriptors are not universal classifications; ratings vary by jurisdiction.
