Netflix Tudum released the first four minutes of Bridgerton Season 3, Part 2, on June 11, 2024, two days before the four-episode batch premiered. The Episode 5 opening picks up after Colin Bridgerton proposes to Penelope Featherington, then turns their engagement announcement into a tense family moment: Eloise knows Penelope is Lady Whistledown, but Colin does not.
What happens in the preview?
The sequence opens with Penelope writing as Lady Whistledown, then flashes back to the proposal that closed Part 1. Colin and Penelope announce that they intend to marry to the Bridgerton family. Violet, Francesca, and Hyacinth are delighted; Eloise is not.
Eloise’s reaction carries the scene’s deeper tension. She knows Penelope’s secret identity and is troubled that Penelope has not told Colin. The engagement is joyful news for the family, but it also puts the couple’s honesty problem in plain view.
Why the opening matters to Colin and Penelope’s story
Penelope is Colin’s longtime friend and fiancée, while privately continuing to write the society scandal sheet under the name Lady Whistledown. The preview sets up the central conflict of Part 2: how long can Penelope keep that identity separate from her relationship, and what happens when Colin learns the truth?

Actor Nicola Coughlan described Penelope’s immediate disbelief at Colin’s feelings: “She’s just like, ‘This can’t be happening. This isn’t real.’ ” Showrunner Jess Brownell said the couple gets a temporary reprieve from the conflict: “We were able to put Penelope and Colin into a love bubble,” even as the secret remains unresolved.
