Netflix says it is streaming now; its April 24, 2026 announcement makes “just released” outdated as of October 8, 2026. The film follows a grieving woman on a solo Outback adventure that becomes a deadly pursuit.
What is Apex about?
Theron plays Sasha, who sets out alone into the Australian wilderness while grieving. Her journey turns into a twisted game when Ben, played by Egerton, hunts her as prey. Netflix describes the story as an action thriller built around that central pursuit.
The premise places survival on two levels. In Netflix’s April 24 article, Theron calls it “a story about survival, not just physically but emotionally.” Director Baltasar Kormákur, discussing Jeremy Robbins’s script, says, “Through action, through horror, through hardship, you reveal the characters.”
Who stars in it, and who directed?
- Charlize Theron plays Sasha.
- Taron Egerton plays Ben.
- Baltasar Kormákur directed the film.
Netflix reports that the two leads performed many of their own stunts in the Australian wilderness. Theron also worked with professional rock climber Beth Rodden on Sasha’s physicality. Theron said of Rodden, “She’s the OG,” and described falling in love with climbing during the preparation.

What to expect from the thriller
The story’s defining contrast is between Sasha’s attempt to test herself in a remote landscape and Ben’s effort to turn that landscape into a hunting ground. Egerton has described his approach to Ben as finding a logic for the character: “In my version of the story, Ben is the hero.” That is the actor’s account of how he approached the role, not a description of the film’s moral point of view.
