A neon sign can give a room the visual shorthand of a diner, theater marquee, or old commercial street. A jukebox can do more: it can make music selection part of the room’s atmosphere. To keep the result personal rather than theme-park-like, decide whether you want a visual accent, a listening feature, or both—and distinguish modern LED neon-style decor from historic glass neon.
Why neon carries a sense of place
Neon signage is more than a retro design motif. Signs were made for particular businesses and streets, and their lettering, forms, and colors became part of the places they identified. Museums preserve them as designed artifacts that tell local and commercial histories.
The Neon Museum in Las Vegas describes its collection as a way to present the city’s history through iconic signs. Its current page reports more than 250 unrestored signs and 32 restored signs in the Neon Boneyard. The National Neon Sign Museum describes a 20,000-square-foot collection of signage, ephemera, and artifacts spanning nearly a century, from the late 1800s through the 1960s. These are collection-specific figures, not a count of neon signs generally.
A new decorative sign may borrow the look of historic signage, but it is not an antique simply because it uses vintage lettering or color. A museum collection preserves objects with particular histories; a contemporary wall sign is a new design for a modern room.

LED neon-style or traditional glass neon?
“Neon” is often used casually for signs that resemble glowing neon, even when they do not contain glass tubing or neon gas. Check the construction rather than relying on the product name.
| Choice | Construction and character | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| LED neon-style | Neon Mfg. says its signs use individual LEDs inside PVC tubing. The MoMA Design Store’s Jean-Michel Basquiat New York Neon Sign, for example, is listed as acrylic and LED. | Dimensions, mounting hardware, power supply, dimming, plug type, and indoor/outdoor rating. Ask about breakage risk and placement around children, pets, or busy walkways. |
| Traditional glass neon | Neon Mfg. describes traditional signs as hand-bent real glass tubing and characterizes glass as fragile. The maker presents it as the classic nostalgic look. | Confirm the sign’s mounting and electrical requirements with its maker. Consider whether the location is protected from bumps and whether the installation requires professional help. |
The construction and durability comparisons above are the manufacturer’s descriptions, not independent comparative tests. Appearance is a matter of preference: glass may appeal if you want the traditional material, while LED neon-style products offer another way to evoke the effect. The sources do not establish a general brightness or energy-use advantage for either type.

Power, mounting, and care
Neon Mfg. says its standard sign power supply accepts 100–240 V input and outputs 12 V. It also says hard-wired power supplies require installation by an electrician. Those details are specific to that maker’s products; check the manual and local rules for the sign you buy. The manufacturer recommends unplugging before cleaning and using a soft, dry cloth or feather duster.
Measure the intended wall area and compare it with the sign’s actual dimensions. Consider the viewing distance, nearby room lighting, and whether the sign is meant as a small accent or a primary source of illumination. Check whether the mounting method suits your wall and whether the product includes the hardware you need.

What a jukebox adds that a sign cannot
A jukebox can be a functioning music source as well as a lit cabinet, but the silhouette alone does not guarantee playback. Confirm what a particular model actually does: some products may be decorative, while others include a record deck, audio playback, or wireless connections.

Strausser describes one of its jukeboxes as supporting 33, 45, and 78 rpm vinyl, CD/DVD, radio, USB, SD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Spotify, YouTube, and wireless karaoke. That is a manufacturer’s description of its product, not a feature list that applies to jukeboxes as a category. Check the exact model’s formats and any account or service requirements before buying.
Compare function and fit before finishes
- Playback: Confirm whether a turntable is included and which record speeds it supports; check for CD/DVD, radio, USB or SD, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and named streaming services if those matter to you.
- Sound and listening: Look for model-specific audio information and consider where the machine will sit in relation to listeners and other furnishings. Do not assume the cabinet’s appearance tells you how it sounds.
- Footprint: Compare the cabinet’s full dimensions with the available floor area, including clearance to walk around it and access it.
- Appearance and lighting: Compare front design, finishes, materials, and whether lighting is adjustable. Strausser says its example can be configured with different finishes and more than 200 lighting color combinations.
- Ownership terms: Check the final price, taxes or VAT, delivery, setup, warranty, returns, and any exclusions for the chosen model and destination.
Strausser lists standard pricing from €1,750 and custom builds from €2,000, VAT included, and states a two-year factory warranty and a 30-day money-back guarantee subject to exclusions. These are the maker’s published terms for its products; confirm current availability, delivery messaging, and the terms that apply to your order.

Plan the room around one main feature
These are design approaches, not fixed rules. Choose the one that fits how you expect to use the room.
One sign as an accent
Use a single sign to add color or evoke a particular kind of place without making every object compete for attention. A wall sign can work above a console, in a listening corner, or near a home bar; size and mounting should suit the wall rather than simply filling it.
A jukebox as the focal point
If people will choose and listen to music in the room, begin with the playback features and cabinet footprint. Treat its lighting and finish as part of the furniture scheme, not as a substitute for the music function.
Both, with a clear hierarchy
A sign and jukebox can share a room if one is visually dominant and the other supports it. For example, a smaller sign can echo the jukebox’s colors without competing with its lit cabinet. Keep other bright accents restrained so the room feels collected rather than staged.
Quick Recap
Before you buy: a practical checklist
- Decide whether the priority is wall art, a working music source, or a combination.
- Measure the wall or floor area and compare it with each product’s stated dimensions.
- Locate nearby outlets and check the included power supply, input range, plug type, dimming, mounting hardware, and any hard-wiring requirements.
- Confirm the sign’s construction—LED neon-style or actual glass tubing—and the product’s placement and environmental ratings.
- For a jukebox, verify playback formats, wireless features, service requirements, cabinet size, and lighting controls for the exact model.
- Read the current warranty, return exclusions, taxes, shipping, setup, and delivery terms before placing an order.
