Neil Young announced on October 8, 2025, that he would remove his music from Amazon, and January 2026 reporting said it had since been removed from Amazon Music. Young said his decision was a protest against Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’s support of the Trump administration; those are Young’s political judgments, not independent findings about Bezos or Amazon.
What did Neil Young announce?
In an October 8, 2025, post on his website, Neil Young Archives, Young called on fans to stop using Amazon and its subsidiaries, including Whole Foods Market, and to buy locally and directly. Music Business Worldwide reproduced his statement: “Forget Amazon and Whole Foods. Buy local. Buy direct. Bezos supports this government. It does not support you or me.”
Young initially described the music removal as a future action. “The time is here. Forget Amazon. Soon my music will not be there,” he wrote, urging fans to support their communities and local stores.
Is Neil Young’s music still on Amazon Music?
The status changed over time. On October 10, 2025, The Canadian Press reported that Young’s tracks were still available on Amazon’s Canadian website at midday, two days after the announcement. That was a dated observation limited to Canada—not a statement about other territories or later availability.

By January 2026, The Guardian reported that Young had removed his music from Amazon Music. Streaming catalogs can differ by country and change over time, so that report describes the status at the time of its coverage rather than guaranteeing present-day availability everywhere.
Why did Young leave Amazon Music?
Young presented the withdrawal as a political protest. He objected to what he described as Bezos’s support for the Trump administration, and in later remarks cited the administration’s international policies and support for ICE. The Guardian quoted Young saying: “The president’s international policies and his support of ICE make it impossible for me to ignore his actions. If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon.”

The Associated Press reported that Amazon Music did not immediately respond to a request for comment at the time of its January coverage. Young also acknowledged a business cost to his decision, calling it “unfortunately harmful to my record company in the short term” while saying he believed the message was important. No financial figure for that impact was reported.
Can you still buy Neil Young CDs and vinyl on Amazon?
The reported withdrawal concerned streaming on Amazon Music, not every way of buying Young’s music through Amazon. The Guardian reported in January 2026 that CDs and vinyl records remained available to buy through the marketplace. That report does not establish current inventory, which can vary by item and date.

Young advised fans seeking physical editions to look at record stores. That offers a different route from streaming: a local shop may have CDs or LPs, while availability depends on its stock. The Guardian also reported that Young suggested digital listening elsewhere, but the reviewed coverage does not establish a particular current streaming service as a confirmed alternative.

Young’s Amazon decision followed an earlier dispute with Spotify, but the causes differed. The Canadian Press reported that Young boycotted Spotify in 2022 over its hosting of Joe Rogan’s podcast and returned in 2024. Music Business Worldwide reported that Young said in 2024 he could not leave Apple and Amazon as well as Spotify without leaving his music with very few streaming outlets. That history provides context for his changing use of streaming services; it does not mean the Amazon protest was about the same issue as the Spotify boycott.
