In interviews over the years, Portman has described the joy of watching them grow into distinct people, her efforts to talk with them in age-appropriate ways, and how parenthood shapes her decisions about work. The comments below are snapshots from specific interviews, not a guide to her private family life.
In April 2026, Harper’s Bazaar reported that Portman was expecting a third child with partner Tanguy Destable. That announcement does not establish that the baby has since been born.

Portman and Millepied have two children together: Aleph and Amalia. Portman has generally kept the focus of her public comments on her experience as a parent rather than sharing extensive details about the children themselves.
She enjoys seeing her children become their own people
In an April 15, 2025, conversation with Jenna Ortega for Interview magazine, Portman said, “My kids are always a source of excitement.” She described enjoying the process of watching them develop into individuals and spending time with friends and their children.

In that same conversation, Portman said having children had not been a way to balance her professional and personal lives. She had wanted to have children with someone she loved. That was her account of her own motivation, not a general prescription for how people should approach family or career.
Her 2020 approach emphasized empathy and age-appropriate conversations
In an interview with Fatherly, originally published in October 2020, Portman said she tried to consider what was appropriate for young children when discussing gender and social obstacles. She described wanting to teach empathy and care for others, and to introduce both children to stories featuring protagonists of varied genders, backgrounds, and abilities.
“The core of it is just caring for other people and imagining how they feel,” she told Fatherly. Asked whether she parented her son and daughter differently, she said she had not so far, while stressing that children differ as individuals. These remarks reflect what she said when Aleph and Amalia were young; they should not be read as a description of her current conversations or either child’s present life.
Why she wrote Natalie Portman’s Fables
Portman told Fatherly that she noticed differences between books marketed to her daughter and those aimed at her son. She wanted “classic stories to read to both of them,” which prompted her to write Natalie Portman’s Fables. The book retells “The Tortoise and the Hare,” “The Three Little Pigs,” and “Country Mouse and City Mouse.” Fatherly reported that it was released in October 2020.

Parenthood has shaped how she thinks about work
In a 2015 interview with The New Zealand Herald, Portman said she wanted her projects to matter because taking a job meant time away from her child. She also called motherhood, for herself, “a wonderful, meaningful, life-changing experience that I couldn’t live without.” She paired that personal statement with an explicit recognition that someone who did not want children could still be fulfilled and whole.
In August 2015, Portman told Harper’s Bazaar that she had asked Cate Blanchett how she managed parenting and a career. As Portman recalled it, Blanchett replied: “You just do. Stressing about it doesn’t help.” Portman also observed that men she knew faced similar questions about work and family time, and argued that those questions should be asked of men, too.

Her comments about raising a child in France were personal observations
In the same 2015 Harper’s Bazaar interview, reported by ABC News, Portman discussed raising Aleph in Millepied’s native France. She described differences she had noticed in how adults behaved around children at playgrounds in Paris and the United States. This was her observation at that time, not a universal account of either culture or a current statement about where the family lives.

In a first-person PEOPLE feature published in April 2020, Portman wrote that her children loved animals and that she and her husband liked to plant a tree on each child’s birthday. It is a dated detail about an activity she described then, not evidence of a continuing routine.
