Naseem Shah’s X account said on March 26, 2026, that it had been hacked and recovered. That was the account’s public explanation—not independent proof of a technical intrusion. Later reporting said Shah attributed the controversial post to his management team, and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) imposed a PKR 20 million fine after disciplinary proceedings.
What happened to Naseem Shah’s X account?
The episode followed a now-deleted post from Shah’s account about Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s reception at the opening event of Pakistan Super League 11. Urdu News reported that Shah said the post was not intentional and that his account had been hacked. On March 26, a statement posted from the account read: “This account of Naseem was recently hacked but now recovered successfully.” Urdu News reported that the account had been restored. Urdu News’ March 27 report records the statement and event context.
The wording establishes what the account said publicly. The available reporting does not document an independent forensic finding confirming that someone accessed the account without authorization.
What did Naseem Shah say later?
In follow-up reporting, Shah said the controversial post had been made by his management team and did not represent his views. This is a later explanation reported after the initial hacked-account statement; it complicates, rather than simply confirms, that first account. Dawn ePaper’s March 31 report covered the later explanation and the disciplinary outcome.

Why did the PCB issue a notice?
On March 27, the PCB announced a show-cause notice concerning alleged violations of Shah’s Central Contract and Media Policy and Regulations. The board said it would consider his response before deciding on further action. Its notice described the alleged basis for disciplinary action; it was not itself the final decision. The PCB’s statement is available in its March 27 announcement.
What was the PCB’s final reported action?
Dawn ePaper reported that the PCB imposed a PKR 20 million fine following disciplinary proceedings. The fine was the board’s reported disciplinary outcome, distinct from the earlier show-cause notice and from the explanations about who made the post.
