Yellow: Goad, with “on”
EGG, PUSH, SPUR and URGE can each precede “on”: egg on, push on, spur on and urge on.
Green: Famous streets in Los Angeles
MULHOLLAND, RODEO, SUNSET and VINE are the four street names.
Rank #2
Blue: Member of a Dallas pro sports team
COWBOY, MAVERICK, STAR and WING refer to members of Dallas professional sports teams: a Cowboy, a Maverick, a Star and a Wing.
Purple: European capitals minus the second-to-last letter
MINK comes from Minsk, PARS from Paris, ROE from Rome, and SOFA from Sofia. In each city name, remove the second-to-last letter to form the tile.

How the hint ladder works
The sequence gives progressively more explicit help: a loose clue points toward a possible connection, the category names identify the shared property, and the answer sets show the exact four tiles. The reasoning differs by group: phrase completion for yellow, Los Angeles street names for green, Dallas team names for blue, and letter deletion for purple.
